Life of the characters
Be loved by your father
Liu Cong is the second son of Mu Liu Biao in Jingzhou. Liu Biao Chu dotes on his eldest son Liu Qi because he looks very similar to him. However, Liu Biao's second son Liu Cong marries his niece, which is why Mrs. Cai loves Liu Cong and dislikes Liu Qi. She often says to Liu Biao that she destroys her reputation. Liu Biao Chong often believes in his later wife. Liu Biao's brother-in-law Cai Mao and his nephew Zhang Yun were also lucky to be Liu Biao and were friendly with Liu Cong. Liu Biao and Mrs. Cai planned to make Liu Cong their successor, while Cai Mao and Zhang Yun were their party members. Liu Qi fell out of favor because of CAI's slander. Finally, he followed Zhuge Liang's plan and asked to leave zhenjiangxia. Liu Cong was greatly favored by his father because of his brother's fall out of favor and Cai's influence. He also planned to let him take over Jingzhou. Liu Qi and Liu Cong brothers also had a feud.
Take over Jingzhou
In 208, Liu Biao was seriously ill. Liu Qi came back from Jiangxia to visit his father. Cai's younger brother Cai Mao and Cai Mao's nephew Zhang Yun were afraid that their father and son would touch Liu Biao when they met. Liu Biao asked Liu Qi to take over Jingzhou instead, so they refused to let Liu Qi see Liu Biao. Liu Biao died soon, and Liu Cong took over the post of Jingzhou animal husbandry with the support of CAI Mao and others. At the same time, Cao Cao was leading the southern expedition to Jingzhou. Facing the pressure of the army, Kuai Yue, Han song and Fu Xun, the eastern Cao, lobbied Liu Cong to surrender to Cao Cao. Liu Cong still wanted to revolt and said, "today, I'm going to defend Jingzhou with you, keep my father's foundation, and wait for the world to change." However, Fu Xun said: "there is a general trend of adverse events, and there is a fixed trend of strength. It is treason for us to resist the imperial court with our subordinates; it must be dangerous to resist the Central Plains with the newly built Jingzhou; it is inappropriate to resist Cao Cao with Liu Bei. The three items are all insufficient. If we want to use them to resist the Imperial Army, we will surely perish. How does the general compare with Liu Bei? " Liu Cong replied, "not as good as that." Fu Xun therefore said: "if Liu Bei can't resist Cao Cao, then Jingzhou can't exist by itself. If Liu Bei could resist Cao Cao, he would no longer be a subordinate of the general. I hope the general doesn't doubt it any more. "
Fall without a fight
Therefore, Liu Cong decided to surrender. When Cao Cao marched into Xiangyang, Liu Cong offered to surrender, and Liu Bei went to Xiakou to take refuge with Liu Qi. Cao Cao took Liu Cong as the governor of Qingzhou. According to the imperial edict of Wei Wu story quoted by Pei Songzhi, Liu Cong and later Cao Cao were appointed as admonishment officials and participated in military affairs. The story is unknown.
Character evaluation
Wei Wu story: Jingzhou CI Shi Cong has a noble mind, broad wisdom, light honor and righteousness, small profits and generous virtue, despises the cause of thousands of miles, ignores the three armies, upholds the integrity of the body, commands the reputation of the name, and glorifies the legacy of the former monarch. The following is an immortal sequel. Bao Yong's abandonment of Bingzhou and Dou Rong's departure from the five counties are not enough to describe. Although he was granted the title of a state, he still hated this favor but not the vice-president. Although the history of supervision is respected, rank and salary are not excellent. Today, I listen to what I hold, and I represent Cong as a counsellor, who participated in military affairs. Cao Cao: a son should be like sun Zhongmou, a son like Liu Jingsheng, a son like a porpoise dog! Cai Dongfan: it's not true that Cao Cao said to have children like sun Zhongmou, Liu Jingsheng, Zhu Er, and fugu.
