Ma Long began to study table tennis in Anshan, Liaoning Province at the age of 5. In 2001, he was discovered by coach Guan Hua'an and brought to Beijing for further study. In 2003, he joined the national team. In 2004, he won the men's singles championship in the World Youth Championships. In 2009, he won the four championships of team, men's singles, men's doubles and mixed doubles in the Asian Championships. This is also China's first four championships since 1984.

Ma Long was born on October 20, 1988 in Anshan City, Liaoning Province.

In 1993, Malone's father let 5-year-old Malone learn to play table tennis because table tennis can not only "exercise", but also "not easy to get hurt".

In 1999, Malone entered Liaoning sports school and studied under Wang Jun, the 34th world table tennis champion.

In 2001, the 13-year-old Malone was once faced with the situation of being eliminated by the provincial team. However, when the coach of Beijing Xicheng sports school went to Liaoning to select seedlings, the coach Guan Hua'an took a fancy to Malone and brought him from Liaoning to Beijing to continue to learn table tennis.

Sports experience

In 2002, Malone participated in the training of excellent seedlings in Rizhao, Shandong Province. He won more than 20 awards in the training of more than 60 people and was selected into the second national team.

In 2003, Malone won the second place of 12 people in the first promotion competition after entering the second team. Then, with this result, he entered the second group of the national first team.

In 2004, Malone won the men's team, men's singles and mixed doubles championship and the men's doubles runner up in the Asian Youth Table Tennis Championships; he won the men's team, men's singles championship and the men's doubles and mixed doubles runner up in the World Youth Table Tennis Championships.
