In 1965, he graduated from the director department of Beijing Film Academy and stayed in the university to teach in the same year. Professor in 1998. The main courses are: film drama, audio-visual language, director creation, etc. At the same time, he directed nine films such as Sakura, Genghis Khan, golden autumn deer and fifteen TV series (more than 100 episodes). He wrote eight movie scripts and four TV scripts.

The style of the film is fresh and touching. It won the excellent feature film award issued by the Ministry of culture in 1979. Zhan Xianggu always grasps the word "emotion". Through the inner conflict of the drama, he melts the strong feelings of the characters and receives a touching artistic effect. It is in this respect that Sakura has achieved great success.
