Character evaluation
Cai Chusheng's life is a realistic and nationalized way of artistic creation. Most of his films profoundly reveal the social contradictions in modern China, accuse the old Chinese society and the corruption of the ruling class, pour out the aspirations of the people, and call for the dawn of Liberation (Shantou daily review). The film directed by him has distinctive artistic characteristics, the story is tortuous and moving, with a beginning and an end. The characters are depicted in detail and rich in connotation, which shows the traditional ethics of the Chinese nation from many aspects (Dahua online review). From the 1930s to the 1960s, Cai Chusheng's film creation was closely related to the pulse of the times and absorbed the structural characteristics of Chinese classical chapter novels. The story of the film is rich in content, tortuous in plot, complete in structure, clear in hierarchy and fascinating (Nanfang Daily review).
