Jiang Xinzhe used to be the head coach of Iran's Taekwondo national team, but ten years later, when Iran's Taekwondo was enough to compete with South Korea, he voluntarily resigned as the head coach.

At the age of 12, Jiang Xinzhe began to practice Taekwondo under the influence of his uncle. In 1985, the Iranian government invited a Korean taekwondo coach to coach the Iranian team through the World Taekwondo Federation to develop its own Taekwondo. At that time, it was the Iran Iraq war. In the embarrassing situation of no response, Jiang Xinzhe readily accepted the invitation. "He is such a person, like to challenge from scratch, let alone for Taekwondo." Mrs. Jiang said that maybe this is one of the reasons why he chose to go to Iran.

When Jiang Xinzhe first arrived in Iran, he did not immediately take over the national team. Instead, he trained 18 Iranian taekwondo black belt athletes for 10 days, eight hours a day. The current chairman and vice chairman of the Iranian Taekwondo Association and some other excellent Iranian Taekwondo coaches participated in the training. The training content is unified action, unified technology and unified rules. "The foundation of Taekwondo in Iran is already weak. If there is no unified standard and understanding, the future development will be more and more difficult." Jiang Xinzhe recalled.

Devil Training

After that, Jiang Xinzhe personally selected 32 potential Taekwondo Athletes in Iran, trained and assessed them with strict and almost cruel patience, self-restraint and unyielding in four weeks, and finally eliminated 24 of them. Although eliminated, the 24 athletes still very much hope to stay and continue to accept his guidance, "let them stay is unfair to the eight selected players", so Jiang Xinzhe insisted that they leave. The eight selected players form Iran's first taekwondo national team. Before they have time to catch their breath, the more cruel devil training begins. They once ran 400 kilometers in 10 days. Some of the team members fell down in the middle of the race and were dragged into the car. They drank some water and had a massage to relieve themselves. Then they caught up with the team and continued to run In the end, all the eight players held on to the end without exception. After three months of devil training, in September 1985, Jiang Xinzhe led the eight players to participate in the first World Taekwondo Championship held in Seoul, South Korea. After the draw, the Iranian government asked two Iranian players to abstain, including the captain of the Iranian team, because their opponents were the United States and Israel. Moreover, it was specially proposed at that time that if the two players did not abstain, they would be expelled.

Although extremely reluctant, but the two players or in accordance with the requirements of the government, the victory handed over to the opponent. Finally, the other six players in the competition won 1 silver and 1 bronze, ranking eighth in the total team score.

Principles of conduct

Jiang Xinzhe has always insisted on using the Taekwondo spirit of courtesy, integrity, patience, self-restraint and indomitable to strictly demand himself and his team members. As the head coach, Jiang Xinzhe's first problem is that the players of the national team can't sing the national anthem, "technology can be learned at any time, but thinking and national pride are more important than mastering good technology." Therefore, his first class in the national team is to require all players to learn to sing the national anthem.

Jiang Xinzhe and his team members formed a tacit understanding. Once it comes to technical problems, Jiang Xinzhe doesn't have to say much. Master Jiang flatly explained, "as a coach, we should set an example, so as to make students better than ourselves." In the past 10 years, the number of Taekwondo practitioners in Iran has grown from less than 30000 at the beginning to 1.5 million now. The level of Taekwondo in Iran is also booming, and many excellent players from Iran have come to the fore in international competitions.
