Zhou Jun

Zhou Jun (August 23, 1979 - March 12, 2021), male, born in Chenzhou, Hunan Province, is a well-known Chinese material science expert, CPC member and national outstanding youth. He once served as deputy director of Wuhan optoelectronic National Research Center, vice president of optoelectronic college, executive deputy director and doctoral supervisor of Optics Valley Laboratory of Huazhong University of science and technology.

On March 12, 2021, Zhou Jun died of work-related illness at the age of 42.

Life figures

In 2001, he graduated from school of physics, Sun Yat sen University with a Bachelor of Science degree.

In 2002, he joined the Communist Party of China.

In 2007, he graduated from school of physics, Sun Yat sen University with a doctorate in science and studied with Academician Xu Ningsheng.

From 2007 to 2009, he engaged in postdoctoral research in Georgia Institute of technology, and studied under Academician Wang Zhonglin.

In 2009, he was employed as a professor (doctoral supervisor) in Wuhan optoelectronic National Research Center of Huazhong University of science and technology.

From 2016 to March 2021, he served as the deputy director of Wuhan optoelectronic National Research Center and the executive deputy director of Optics Valley laboratory in 2021.

On March 12, 2021, he died of illness due to work. He was 42 years old.

Research direction

Leading the research group, mainly engaged in the research of inorganic nonmetallic materials and devices.

Main achievements

As the corresponding author in Science (1) Nat.Nanotechnol .(1)、 Nat.Commun .(3)、 Adv.Mater .(8)、 EnergyEnviron.Sci .(4)、 Angew.Chem.Int Ed. (4) and other academic journals published more than 90 papers, of which 3 papers were selected as ESI hot papers, 20 papers were selected as ESI highly cited papers, and 22 papers were cited more than 100 times. A number of research works have been approved by ScientificAmerican, ScienceDaily, materialstoday Nat.Nanotechnol . etc. As deputy editor in chief of frontiers of Optoelectronics and deputy director of electronic materials and devices professional committee of China Vacuum Society, as chairman of program committee, he organized 4 large-scale international conferences and 1 domestic conference, and invited more than 40 reports at important academic conferences at home and abroad, such as annual meeting of Materials Research Society (MRS).

Award winning record

He won the second prize of the National Natural Science Award in 2016 (the second complete adult), the first prize of the Natural Science Award for outstanding scientific research achievements of colleges and universities in 2015 (the second complete adult), and the National Excellent Doctoral Dissertation in 2009. He was successively selected as one of the most cited scientists in Kerui Weian (20182019), supported by the National Excellent Youth Fund (2013), selected as one of the top young talents in the national "ten thousand talents program" (2014), and supported by the Ministry of education's "excellent talents in the new century" program in 2009. Among the doctoral students and postdoctoral students, 5 obtained the senior title (Professor / researcher) of domestic universities, and 1 obtained the Excellent Doctoral Dissertation of China Electronics Society.
