Jieyuan
Jieyuan is a Chinese word, pronounced Ji è Yu á n, which refers to the first place in the imperial examination system. In the Tang Dynasty, all the candidates were sent to Beijing by local authorities. Later generations have the same name.

In the Tang Dynasty, all the candidates were sent to the local examination, so later generations called Jieyuan the first place in the local examination. For example, Tang Yin of Ming Dynasty is called Tang Jieyuan.

Ming and Qing Dynasties
The imperial examination system in Ming and Qing Dynasties was divided into three parts: the children's examination, the local examination, the general examination and the palace examination.
The local examination is the provincial level examination, the examinees who pass the examination are Juren, and the first place is Jieyuan;
The joint examination is a national unified examination for all the people in Beijing. Those who pass the examination are Gongshi, and the first one is Huiyuan;
The palace examination is a Jinshi examination presided over by the Emperor himself. It is divided into three categories: the first is the number one scholar, the second is Bangyan, and the third is tanhuacijinshi. The number of the second class A is several, and the first name is Chuanlu, which is given Jinshi origin. The number of the top three is the highest, and they are given the Jinshi background.
