Yao fengpan (1933-2004), film writer and director, nicknamed genshi, was born in Shouxian County, Anhui Province. He was a reporter of China Daily and United Daily, editor in chief and chief writer of credit information daily. He began to write plays in the early 1960s. He is one of the basic screenwriters of Guolian company. He mostly writes plays for the first directors. He wrote both screenplays and film reviews, and invested the money he got from writing screenplays in making films. In 1990, because of cerebral apoplexy, he took a rest in a hospice. He died on June 26, 2004 at the age of 71.
Personal profile
From 1964 to 1981, he directed 50 films, including more than 10 ghost films. He is good at creating an atmosphere of terror, personifying ghosts, expressing his views on the world through films, achieving the purpose of both entertainment and warning, and becoming a unique and distinctive "ghost" director in Southeast Asia.
Creative experience
He has created more than 10 screenplays, such as hometown of white clouds, streets and alleys, the return of Arctic customs, the proud girl of heaven, dawn break, sunset several times and so on. From 1969 to 1981, he directed more than 50 films, such as "glass eyeball" and "snow girl", and many ghost plays. He was regarded by Southeast Asian audiences as the "ghost director" second only to Japanese horror director Kobayashi. He won the prize of literature and Art Association. In 1971, it was listed as the Ninth "Top Ten Outstanding Youth" in Taiwan. In 1976, he was a research fellow of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. In 1979, he was employed by Spain as a permanent member and jury of the film industry. He is now the director and general manager of Fengguan film company.
