Wang Jujin
Jo Wang / Wang Chu chin, born in Shanghai on March 24, 1944, came to Hong Kong with his family in 1953 and then settled in Taiwan. When I was studying in the art and Printing Department of Taipei Municipal College of technology, I developed a strong interest in animation films. After graduating from the military, I served in the army for two years. During this period, my interest in films shifted from animation to feature films, involving many films of different styles, such as Italian New Realism and French new wave. After leaving the army, I entered the art and Engineering Department of Taiwan Art College in 1965.
The reason why he didn't choose the film department was that although he loved film, he chose art and engineering, which he knew well and would be helpful to film making in the future, because he lacked confidence in film education at that time. When he was in school, he went beyond the stage of pure appreciation of watching movies. When he met a good movie, he would watch several scenes in succession, and take notes of some of the clips, or even simulate shooting, so as to lay the foundation for his future shooting, whether it is an experimental film, a documentary or even a feature film.
Character experience
After graduation in 1968, he joined an advertising company as an art designer. In 1973, we set up the Sinian film and television company. Our main business is to make advertising films and documentaries. Our hobby is to make experimental films. At that time, he also helped Guohe communication company to produce a number of "fragrant island" series documentaries broadcasted on CCTV, such as "Lantern Festival", "racing pigeon", "hero under the fangs", "poisonous snake and snake venom", "when the mullet comes" and "butterfly of Taiwan", which all won a lot of praise. In 1977, when the mullet comes "won the 14th Golden Horse Award He won the 16th Golden Horse Award for best documentary and best documentary photography with butterfly in Taiwan.
However, he is not satisfied with the experimental movie. In the end of 1977, he began to prepare for the production of "windmill", which describes a passenger on a train who sees a child sitting next to him playing windmill against the window, evoking a series of memories and reflections. The unique photography style and the image language full of experimental images made this film win the best 16 mm feature film of the first golden harvest award in 1978.
Wang Jujin's continuous winning record has brought him to the forefront and won the opportunity to shoot 35mm feature films. As the director said, "I'm just using an ancient time and space and form, through the eyes of modern people, and some ideas from classical novels of the Tang Dynasty, such as" picking gods "and" picking immortals ", to illustrate some human nature! "This film not only won Wang Jujin the best director award of the 17th Golden Horse Award, but also was selected by the information bureau to represent Taiwan in the 53rd Academy of film ARTS Oscar foreign language film competition.
At that time, it was popular to shoot films with a large number of actors and tens of millions of production costs. However, the Six Dynasties tales, which was set in Qimei Island, Penghu, produced three stories with a budget of only 3 million. The whole film is written by Wang Jujin and the poet. Except Hu Yinmeng and Han Jiang are professional actors, others are non professional actors. In addition to writing, Wang Jujin also works as director, photographer and even editor.
Then, hell and heaven, a continuation of the supernatural type of strange talks of the Six Dynasties, describes an intellectual who studied for fame in the feudal era, entered a utopian world, but got nothing and destroyed it, only to return to the real world. The box office results of these two films not only make Wang Jujin get the attention of the film circle, but also cause academic discussion on his works. In 1981, he took over the directing job of the film "Shanghai Social archives" from Yongsheng film company, combining scar literature and social realism style, which triggered a wave and made the heroine Lu Xiaofen a hit.
However, for Wang Jujin, his experience in making experimental films made his feature films different from those of commercial films at that time, and he had more satire and Discussion on human nature and self. But his expectations for films were not limited to his personal achievements. He said that "the theme of national films should not be confined to the good and evil, the discussion of human nature should be the most important, and the structure of life should not only be a transition, but also have a worldwide resonance." he hoped that "Chinese films will quickly become artistic and professional, and enter the international arena to compete with other countries" (excerpted from true, good and beautiful film magazine, No. 92, 1981).
However, in the face of the domestic production concept, shooting system and the "make a profit" mentality of the production boss at that time, the full of ideals seemed to end up in the middle of nowhere. Then a few films that didn't sell well and didn't sell well made Wang Jujin fade out of the Taiwan film world after the late 1980s.
