In 1929, he owned more than 20 cinemas in Tianjin, Taiyuan, Jinan, Shijiazhuang, Harbin, Shenyang and other places, and controlled the film projection and distribution in five northern provinces. At the end of the 1920s, films with vulgar taste and crude production flooded the screen. In view of this, he decided to further develop the film production industry. In 1929, in the name of North China film company, he cooperated with Minxin film company to shoot the old capital spring dream, which was jointly written by him and Zhu Shilin. In 1930, he merged with the Greater China Lily film company, and absorbed the printing giants to participate in it, forming Lianhua film production and Printing Co., Ltd. as the general manager. It puts forward the slogan of "advocating art, propagating culture, enlightening people's wisdom, saving the film industry", widely soliciting talents, giving full play to the role of director, paying attention to the quality of art, and bringing in a new audience. After the September 18th Incident in 1931, the Northeast cinema was completely destroyed, and the production base in Zhabei, Shanghai, was also destroyed by the fire of January 28th, resulting in a sharp drop in business income. Therefore, he cooperated with Li Minwei to preside over Lianhua No.1 Factory. Later, his thoughts gradually degenerated, and he was elected as the executive member of the Chinese Educational Film Association of the Kuomintang, and also served as the consultant of the central photography studio. In 1933, he launched the production policy of "saving national films, promoting national quintessence, promoting national industry and serving the country". He signed a contract with the Central Party Department of the Kuomintang to shoot newsreels on behalf of "Lianhua". He also personally edited and directed the film "national style", which publicized the new life movement. However, he finally withdrew from "Lianhua" in 1936 because he could not get rid of the economic downturn.

In 1937, the film "the song of loving mother", CO directed by Zhu Shilin, is an excellent work reflecting family ethics. After the outbreak of the Anti Japanese War, he went to Hong Kong to preside over the Hong Kong Branch of the China Educational Film Association, and founded the "true light" bimonthly to promote the Anti Japanese war films. In his later years, he converted to Christianity and became a devout priest.
