Character evaluation
Wen Yan is a gentle person who doesn't speak very much. She looks very peaceful. Her whole style is quiet and courageous. There is a great contrast between her inner and outer. Her movies are like tai chi. It's very gentle from the outside, but all the energy is hidden in the body. In martial arts, it's called neijiaquan (Geng Le Ping).
Wen Yan has always been shooting literary and artistic films, and has not paid attention to the domestic film commercial market (Phoenix Online Review). She is a gentle and firm female filmmaker, with a clear, steady and firm character. She has a clear attitude, bold creation, and never has a clear plan. The words used to describe the director, such as severe, violent, bad temper, low pressure, are not suitable for her. In her slow speech, we can see that she is strict, has a clear purpose, and is not easy to be influenced and convinced (Southern Metropolis Daily).
