Yan Ning
Yan Ning, female, born in November 1977 in Zhangqiu, Shandong Province, is a structural biologist, a foreign academician of the National Academy of Sciences, the first "young international scientist" of Howard Hughes Institute of medicine, a professor and doctoral supervisor of Princeton University, and an adjunct professor of School of life sciences of Tsinghua University.
Yan Ning studied in the Department of biological science and technology of Tsinghua University from 1996 to 2000 with a bachelor's degree; studied in the Department of molecular biology of Princeton University from 2000 to 2004 with a doctor's degree; worked as a postdoctoral researcher in the Department of molecular biology of Princeton University from 2005 to 2007; served as a professor and doctoral supervisor of Tsinghua University from 2007 to 2017; and worked in May 2017 On April 7, she accepted the invitation of Princeton University and was employed as the tenure professor of sherry Tillman in the Department of molecular biology of Princeton University. On April 30, 2019, she was elected as a foreign academician of the National Academy of Sciences.
Yan Ning is mainly engaged in the research on the structure and working mechanism of important membrane transporters and voltage-gated ion channels related to diseases, and the molecular mechanism of membrane proteins regulating cholesterol metabolism pathway.

Yan Ning was born in Boping village, Puji, Zhangqiu, Shandong Province in November 1977.
From 1996 to 2000, Yan Ning studied in the Department of biological science and technology of Tsinghua University and obtained a bachelor's degree.
From 2000 to 2004, Yan Ning studied in the Department of molecular biology, Princeton University, USA (under the guidance of Professor Shi Yigong) and obtained a doctor's degree.
From 2005 to 2007, Yan Ning worked as a postdoctoral researcher in the Department of molecular biology, Princeton University.
In 2007, after leaving the station, Yan Ning was employed by the medical school of Tsinghua University.
In August 2011, Yan Ning was supported by the National Science Foundation for Distinguished Young Scholars.
From 2007 to 2017, Yan Ning was a professor and doctoral supervisor of Tsinghua University (he became the youngest professor and doctoral supervisor at that time).
In September 2016, as a guest speaker, Yan Ning took part in CCTV's "open talk" program.
On May 7, 2017, Yan Ning accepted the invitation of Princeton University and was employed as the tenure professor of sherry Tillman in the Department of molecular biology of Princeton University; since May of the same year, she has been an adjunct professor of Tsinghua University.
Main achievements
Achievements in scientific research
Yan Ning has been working on the structure and function of membrane proteins in structural biology since she returned to China in October 2007 to set up the laboratory. In 2014, she led the team to analyze the three-dimensional crystal structure of human glucose transporter GLUT1 for the first time in the world. In 2015, she further obtained the ultra-high resolution structure of GLUT3 binding substrate and inhibitor with more conformations, thus clearly revealing the molecular basis of the basic cellular process of glucose transmembrane transport. She also made an important contribution to the field of ion channel structure biology, analyzing the crystal structure of voltage-gated sodium ion channel, and recently obtained the high-resolution structure of RYR1, the largest calcium ion channel, by using the latest freeze electron microscopy technology.
Yan Ning has made a series of achievements in the field of structural biology of membrane proteins, especially transmembrane transporters, including the three-dimensional crystal structure of the landmark human glucose transporter GLUT1; she has also made great achievements in the field of ion channel research, contributing to one of the main structures of sodium ion channel research; she has also used the latest freeze electron microscopy technology to analyze the structure of glucose transporter GLUT1 High resolution structure of high flux calcium channel RYR1.
As of December 2018, Yan Ning has undertaken and participated in a number of NSFC projects and major science projects of the Ministry of science and technology.
