Chen Xinyi

Chen Xinyi, born in Xi'an, Shaanxi Province in 1938, is a national first-class director and a national outstanding talent who enjoys the special allowance of the State Council.

In May and December, 2019, Chen Xinyi won the award for outstanding contribution of modern one drama in China.

On July 9, 2020, the all female class star drama Othello, jointly produced by Chen Xinyi Art Center and Hangzhou performing arts group, officially premiered on the Shanghai People's stage.

Biography of characters

Chen Xinyi, born in 1938, formerly known as Chen Ping, is a native of Tongcheng, Anhui Province. His representative works include drama Shangyang, Peking Opera Zhenguan Shengshi and opera Zhangqian, which explore humanistic spirit and reflective consciousness.

In 1951, he began to engage in drama art practice and learning activities.

In 1956, he graduated from the experimental drama school of Northwest Academy of traditional Chinese opera.

In 1957, drama and film performances began again.

In 1981, he graduated from the director department of the Central Academy of drama with outstanding achievements. He once served as director of Shaanxi people's Art Theater, chief director of China Railway Art Troupe and deputy head of drama troupe.

In 2007, at the centennial of Chinese drama, he was awarded the title of "national drama artist with special contribution" by the State Council of the people's Republic of China.

In his early years, he successfully directed the Japanese drama "a woman's life" and Shakespeare's tragedy "Othello";

He has written Huangmei Opera Huizhou women (won the 2000 Chinese drama Caoyu literature award), children's drama Andersen, and drama a dream of Red Mansions. He has published drama Monograph Research on Chen Xinyi's directing art and his essay life archives.

Her works have won 12 Wenhua awards from the Ministry of culture, including 4 Wenhua awards. She has won the "five one project award" from the Propaganda Department of the CPC Central Committee and various drama awards such as China Drama Festival, China Art Festival, China Peking Opera Festival and drama festivals of various provinces and cities. Beijing Opera "Zhenguan grand event" and drama "Shangyang" have also been shortlisted in the top 10 projects of China's first stage drama from 2002 to 2003. Children's drama "red scarf" has entered the national stage The opera "Zhang Qian" and Beijing Opera "Mei Lanfang" were shortlisted in the primary selection of 2006 stage drama art project; the Zhenguan grand event and "Mei Lanfang" won the gold prize in the third and fourth Beijing Opera Festival respectively.
