Early experience

Born in tiaojingling, Hong Kong in 1960, Chen Yulian grew up in the countryside. She had no dream of acting. When she was young, her closest contact with the entertainment industry was to take fashion photos for the magazine that worked for her elder sister.

Since 1993, Chen Yulian has retired from the entertainment circle and become a full-time social worker, teaching ceramic art to mentally ill and mentally handicapped children. Later, she and two friends set up a community ceramic art training center to help mentally handicapped people recover.

In 2008, after the Wenchuan earthquake in Sichuan Province, she followed a charity organization to Sichuan earthquake area to become a volunteer.
