Ma Xiao was born in Huzhou City, Zhejiang Province in 1962. He graduated from the Philosophy Department of Zhejiang University in 1984. He worked in Gansu Daily in Northwest China for 21 years. He was also an academic member of China Calligrapher Association and chairman of Gansu youth Calligrapher Association. He is now the academic chair of the teaching center of the National Academy of painting of China, the distinguished professor of Lanzhou Jiaotong University and Ludong University, the researcher of many high-end calligraphy research institutions such as the Calligraphy Research Institute of Xi'an Jiaotong University, and the vice chairman of China economic, cultural and Art Federation, economic magazine.
