Introduction to Chaozhou Opera:
Applicant: Yunxiao County, Fujian Province
Chaozhou Opera, also known as "quanchaoyadiao", "chaoyinxi" and "baizixi", is a kind of local opera sung in Chaoshan dialect. It has a history of more than 400 years. It is widely distributed in Zhangzhou, Fujian Province, Chaoshan, Guangdong Province, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Southeast Asia where Chinese live. Yunxiao County of Zhangzhou is the main popular place of Chaozhou Opera. From the late Qing Dynasty to the Republic of China, it was very prosperous, and more than 30 Chaozhou Opera professional classes and societies emerged, such as jinxiuchun and yongzhengxing.
Chaozhou Opera is a combination of poetry, song, dance and drama. Its performance is wonderful and vivid. The three traditional Jinchu operas of "Yang Ling Po Bian Shi Ben", "sweep window meeting" and "Nao Chai" are known as "three precious stones". Chaozhou Opera adopts the folk music of Southern Fujian and Chaoshan, and absorbs the singing methods of Yiyang opera, Kunqiang opera, Xiqin opera, Waijiang opera, etc. In addition, Chaozhou Opera groups often perform in Taiwan, Hong Kong, Southeast Asia and other places, playing a positive role in spreading traditional Chinese culture, connecting the family ties of overseas Chinese at home and abroad, and revitalizing the great cause of reunification of the motherland.
After the founding of the people's Republic of China, Yunxiao County in Fujian Province not only set up professional troupes, but also set up many amateur troupes. But at present, due to the impact of the market and other multi-cultural, the audience is sharply reduced, the survival of the troupe is difficult, and the type of opera is declining day by day. The state should take timely protective measures to rescue this ancient type of opera.
