Brief introduction of Lanxi tanhuang

Lanxi tanhuang is a kind of singing form formed and popular in Lanxi area of central and Western Zhejiang Province, Jinhua and Quzhou.

It is said that in the last years of Qianlong reign of the Qing Dynasty, an official in the county government set up a business in Lanxi to teach the "tanhuang" tune from Jiangsu Province in his spare time. He used the local dialect to sing in order to enjoy himself. Over time, it gradually developed into Lanxi tanhuang with its own system. In the 26th year of the reign of Emperor Guangxu, Yu Qingshe, a special singer of Lanxi tanhuang, appeared in the urban area of Lanxi. Later, it was renamed "Qun Yue Hui" and "Yongchun Hui". Lanxi tanhuang became prosperous for a time. During the Anti Japanese War, artists in the city took refuge in the countryside, and Lanxi tanhuang was introduced to Yongchang, Zhuge, youbu and other places in Lanxi.

Lanxi tanhuang's words are elegant, and his singing pays attention to clear words, pure tone and round tone, which has always been liked by scholars. As far as Liufeng is concerned, most of the other singing troupes call themselves elegant. Most of the singers wear long clothes and have elegant manners. They are known as "Mr. tanhuang". Except for singing at the invitation of relatives and friends, no commercial singing is allowed in the singing class. Due to the limited activities among fans and the influence of war, Lanxi tanhuang was almost famous in the late 1940s.

Later, many beautiful singing tunes of Lanxi tanhuang were absorbed by Wu Opera. The Wu Opera Li Yu BIE Zhuan, kucaihua and monks and nuns association created by Lanxi tanhuang have become fine works of art. In the 1980s, in the process of compiling ten integrated records of Chinese literature and art, the artistic tradition of Lanxi tanhuang was excavated and sorted out accordingly. As a result, a number of new programs were created and folk tanhuang singing activities were carried out. However, in the face of all kinds of shocks, it is still a serious problem for Lanxi tanhuang to develop and prosper, which needs special attention.
