In the book of changes, there is a saying that "the dance of drum is to do its best", which not only vividly reflects the long history of Chinese encouragement, but also outlines its main functions. From the original "beating the stone, supporting the stone and leading a hundred animals to dance" to the later generations, the Chinese drum dance has always been in the same continuous line. There are various forms of Chinese drum dance, which are widely distributed. There are many kinds of dances. Among them, the more typical forms are waist drum dance, broken drum dance, flower drum dance, wood drum dance, long drum dance, flat drum dance, copper drum dance, dragon drum dance, fan drum dance, yellow mud drum dance, elephant foot dance, monkey drum dance, flower whip dance, bamboo drum dance, Bell Dance, sheep skin dance and so on.
Yichuan chest drum is a folk dance form based on drum dance. Its original name is "flower drum", which is one of the famous "three drums in Northern Shaanxi". Yichuan chest drum has a long history, which evolved from the form of beating drum to help fight, transmitting signal and beating drum to celebrate victory in ancient wars. It gradually became popular along the Yellow River in Yichuan of Shaanxi Province after the Song Dynasty.
Yichuan chest drum is unique in its vigorous, free and unrestrained, lively, powerful and crisp style. It can perform on the stage and in the street square. There are both male and female actors, and the number of them can be more or less. The dancers have a unique look. Men and women wear different short clothes. They wear hero scarves on their heads, warrior tassels, hero knots on their chests, hero flowers on their backs, colorful silk on their waists, tight wrists and cuffs, tied legs, and Dengyun shoes on their feet.
In the early stage of Yichuan chest drum performance, two men and women danced, one playing a small gong and the other playing a side drum. Later, it developed into one or two male drummers beating drums, and four or eight female drummers holding money sticks, colored silk and flower fans, beating and dancing around the male drummers. Some drummers carry several drums on one's back and can make many patterns. After the founding of the people's Republic of China, Yichuan chest drum has been greatly developed. During the performance, there are half male and half female drummers, a percussion band beside them, and dance steps such as Yangko step and run jump step are used to realize the formation change.
Yichuan chest drum is one of the famous "three drums in Northern Shaanxi" with great momentum, elegant and popular tastes, strong life flavor and strong artistic appeal. In 1993, he participated in the performance of the 45th Anniversary of the national day; in 2003, CCTV made it into a feature film and broadcast it overseas; in 1996, Yichuan County was named "the hometown of chest Drum Art" by the state.
Yichuan chest drum has experienced the evolution process from the original form to the drum. It has been continuously processed and improved during the period from the Republic of China to the early establishment of the people's Republic of China, and gradually matured. During the "Cultural Revolution" period, the chest drum in Yichuan was quiet for a time, and then recovered after rescue and excavation. At present, the inheritance of Yichuan chest drum is lack of people, and it is urgent to rescue and protect.
