Introduction to Korean Dongxiao Music:
Applicant: Yanji City, Jilin Province
Dongxiao is a traditional musical instrument of Korean nationality in China, which has a history of more than 1500 years.
Every festival or wedding ceremony in the countryside, Chinese Korean people will play Dongxiao. The sound of Dongxiao is quiet and melodious, with the style of honest elders and gentlemen. Since the end of the 19th century, Yanbian's Dongxiao performers have successively created many music works based on "sandiao", that is, solos. Among them, there are not only sad music reflecting the Korean people's hard life under feudal rule and Japanese aggressors' crazy plunder, but also "xinayu" music showing their determination to fight against the Japanese aggressors. After the founding of the people's Republic of China, there appeared songs such as logging song and harvest song, which expressed the pride and joy in labor and production incisively and vividly, and greatly enriched the treasure house of Chinese music culture.
Korean Dongxiao music is an indispensable part of the spiritual life of the Korean people and plays a vital role in the cultural exchanges between China and North Korea. At present, although the Dongxiao performance activities in Yanji and Hunchun are very active, it is still necessary to further strengthen the protection work and formulate a systematic collection plan, so as to promote the stable inheritance and new prosperity of this excellent national art.
