Panxian Yi folk song is an important part of Yi traditional culture. It is mainly spread in Panbei area of Panxian County, Liupanshui City, Guizhou Province, among which the folk songs of Panxian mud township are the most representative.
Panxian Yi folk songs can be divided into love songs, wine songs, labor songs and narrative songs. From the singing form, there are solo singing, duet singing, group duet singing, collective singing and simple two voice chorus; the singing time and occasion are relatively free and flexible, and even the language of the lyrics, many of them are half Han, half Yi and even pure Chinese; the lyrics structure is mainly seven character and four sentences, and there are also four sentences with one question and four sentences with one answer. The melody is graceful and melodious, which is known by the local people "La Shan tune". "Folk songs come out of the mud river. People carry their horses. There are three horses ahead, and there are nine baskets behind It vividly sings the rich and colorful folk songs of Yi people.
Panxian Yi folk songs have unique singing skills, such as throat and head cavity resonance, true and false sound mixing, which make them have unique charm. The older generation has continued this ingenious skill with the way of "oral teaching and psychological teaching".
