Introduction to Xi'an drum music
Applicant: Shaanxi Province
Xi'an drum music is a large-scale folk music that has been popular in Xi'an (ancient Chang'an) and its surrounding areas for thousands of years.
In ancient Chang'an and its surrounding areas, especially in the northern foot of Qinling Mountains, there are many temples and Taoist temples, whose temple fairs and folk music clubs are the basis for the survival of Xi'an drum music.
The existing Xi'an drummer's score collection in the 28th year of the Qianlong reign of the Qing Dynasty has basically the same characters as those used in Jiang Kui's seventeen self Du songs of the Song Dynasty, which proves that this collection has a long history and is a folk music score gradually lost in the whole country since the Ming and Qing Dynasties.
There are more than 1100 pieces of Xi'an drum music which have the same name as Tang and song Daqu, Tang and song Yan Daqu, Jiaofang Daqu and so on. Compared with Tang and song Daqu, Xi'an drum music has a huge structure and can not accommodate the new musical instruments since Ming and Qing Dynasties. It shows some primitive characteristics and reflects the strict inheritance of Tang and song music. Now the commonly used repertoire are guduanzi, dazhazi, Yinling, Taoci, nanci, qupo, zaqu, etc.
Xi'an drum music is an important legacy of ancient Chinese music. Its unique complex musical form and rich characteristics, music collection, spinning and instrument configuration form become valuable evidence to solve the mystery of ancient Chinese music art. Its large number of music repertoire enriches the treasure house of Chinese music culture and will play an important role in the further development of Chinese national music culture.
Due to the erosion of modern strong culture, the folk cultural environment of Xi'an drum music, such as folk temple fair, is gradually disappearing, and its survival soil is disappearing. In addition, the old artists have died one after another, and there is no successor. Xi'an drum music is on the verge of extinction, which needs urgent rescue and protection.
