Introduction to Korean costumes:
Applicant: Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture, Jilin Province
Korean traditional costumes are mainly white, which symbolizes purity, kindness, nobility and sacredness, showing a simple and elegant style. Therefore, Korean people are known as "white nationality". At the beginning of the 20th century, with the penetration of modern economy, woven fabrics, silk, satin and other fabrics began to be introduced into the Korean inhabited areas. Affected by this, the colors of Korean costumes became diverse.
The most important feature of Korean traditional dress is slant placket, no button, tied with long cloth belt. The dress of men and women is very different. Men wear pants and women wear skirts. The crotch and legs of men's trousers are wide, and cloth belts are tied at the trouser legs to facilitate sitting in cross legged seats; women's short jackets are as long as the chest, while long skirts are as long as the heels.
Korean costumes are mainly made of self-woven linen and homespun cloth. They are made by plane cutting method. When they are dressed, they are concise, bright and full of changes, which perfectly reflects the beauty of straight line and curve. The color matching of clothing follows the principle of Yin Yang and five elements, using the color of clothing and the material of clothing to deduce different styles, so that the color matching and similar color matching complement each other.
Korean traditional costumes are gradually formed in the long-term production and life of the Korean people, and retain the remarkable characteristics of Korean folk costumes. In addition, it inherits many characteristics of the Central Plains costumes in Sui and Tang Dynasties, which is of great value in the study of costume history.
