Introduction to Jieshou Book Fair:

Jieshou book club originated in miaohu village, Renzhai Township, Jieshou City, Anhui Province, with a history of more than 300 years. Miaohu is low-lying and has been suffering from famine for many years. During the reign of Daoguang in the Qing Dynasty, Miao Benlin, an artist of Zhuizi Weng, sang a song beside his home in summer to praise the rare harvest. Under his influence, artists from neighboring villages gathered in miaohu to sing and celebrate the harvest. Miao Lake Village thus formed the custom of holding a Book Fair on the sixth day of the sixth month of the sixth lunar month, which has been handed down from generation to generation for a long time.

In 1932, Miao Yuanpu, the fifth generation descendant of Zhuizi Weng, officially designated the sixth day of the sixth lunar month in leap year as the date of Miao Hu book fair to commemorate the 165th birthday of Miao Benlin, the first generation founder of the book fair. Since then, Jieshou Miao Lake book club has developed in the process of continuous inheritance. During the "Cultural Revolution", the activities of book clubs were once silent. In 1985, the Miao Lake Book Society was restored.

Each session of Jieshou Miao Lake book fair lasts for five days. During the fair, quyi artists from Caoxian County, Shandong Province, Gongxian County, Jiangsu Province, Dawu County, Hubei Province, Zhoukou District, Henan Province, Fuyang and Suzhou District, Anhui Province successively attended the performance. People from hundreds of miles around the fair also rushed to Miao lake to listen to the book. The scene was grand and lively.

The emergence of Jieshou Book Fair has greatly developed the art of Zhuizi. It has been sung for a long time in the Yinghe River Basin. Many famous storytellers have come to miaohu book fair to perform. The Miao Lake book fair in Jieshou has influenced one side with its rich cultural heritage and sincere and simple singing art, and promoted the local economic development and spiritual civilization construction.
