Polysyllabic folk songs refer to folk songs with polysyllabic structure. Chinese polysyllabic folk songs are mainly concentrated in more than ten ethnic minorities, such as Zhuang, Dong, Buyi, Gaoshan, Maonan, Jiajia, Miao and Yi. Most of them adopt two part form, and a few are three part and four part art.
The three part folk songs of Zhuang nationality originated from Jiafang Township in Mashan County, Nanning City, Guangxi Province. They are called "huanha" (meaning "Hesheng" folk songs) by local people. At present, they are mainly distributed in Guzhai Township and LiDang Township, Zhenwei Township, Xiyan Township and tanghong Township in Shanglin County, beigeng Township, Suiyi Township and Gupeng Township in Xincheng County, Longwan Township and Jingsheng Township in Du'an County, Gongchuan Township and Gonggong Township in Dahua County He Xiang. As early as the late Tang Dynasty, the three part folk songs of Zhuang nationality began to spread in the east of Mashan County, and reached an unprecedented prosperity in the middle of Ming Dynasty.
Zhuang three part folk songs often sing manhuan, buleihuan, jiafanghuan, jiehuan and so on. Its structure is divided into three parts. The first part and the second part have independent tones, and the third part sets off harmony. The three parts can highlight and enrich the main melody, and coordinate with each other, with soft tone and unified style. Zhuang three part folk songs generally have relatively fixed singing books, such as dahonghuan, denghuanhuan and twenty four filial piety, but they also have improvised contents based on daily life. The lyrics are generally five character four sentence or five three five character six sentence, with strict waist foot rhyme. The three part folk songs of Zhuang nationality are mainly sung in the activities of life and production, communication and entertainment, love, marriage and funeral, and God entertainment, among which the folk songs used for marriage, funeral and God entertainment are especially solemn. Representative works include huanyana, orphan Huan, Xiaoer Huan, etc.
The three part folk song of Zhuang nationality is an important representative of Chinese folk multi part folk song. It fully reflects the main characteristics of Zhuang society and is a unique manifestation of Zhuang culture. At present, due to the change of social environment, the platform of singing display is decreasing, and the characteristics of Zhuang three part folk songs are weakening day by day, which is in urgent need of protection and restoration.
