Brief introduction of De'ang flower watering Festival

The flower watering Festival is an annual traditional festival of the De'ang people, which is mainly spread among the De'ang people in Dehong Dai and Jingpo Autonomous Prefecture of Yunnan Province. The flower watering Festival starts from the seventh day after Qingming Festival and lasts for three days. On the first day of the festival, people of the De'ang Nationality will put on their festive costumes, carry fresh water from the well on their backs, bring ready food, and hold flowers in their hands, and gather in the Tibetan house of the village. The Festival ceremony is presided over by the elders in the village. During the ceremony, the young men beat the elephant's foot drum and the young women dance "Sand Dance" with the drum beating. Other people carry delicate flower baskets, hold bamboo water pipes over their heads, pour water into the water channel in turn, and bathe the Buddha statues in order to pray for good weather in the coming year. After the ceremony, people put the food on the plate in front of the Buddha, recite the sacrificial words in unison, and then enjoy all kinds of food. After eating, they formed a long line, led by the elephant foot drum team, and crossed the mountains to get water from wells or springs. Every time we draw water, we have to hold a ceremony to draw water and supply things. Young men and women also have to perform such artistic performances as passing on cigarettes, singing songs and dancing competitions.

The flower watering Festival is the crystallization of De'ang culture, which involves the religious etiquette, folk songs and dances, folk crafts, marriage customs and traditional diet of De'ang people, and has a very rich national cultural connotation.
