Applicant: Binyang County, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region
Paolong Festival is a series of comprehensive folk festivals with the cultural characteristics of Han and Zhuang nationalities. It is popular in Binyang County, Nanning City, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.
Binyang paolong festival originated in the song and Yuan Dynasties, matured in the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China, and has a long history of thousands of years. It is said that during the reign of emperor Renzong of the Song Dynasty, di Qing led a large army to fight against nongzhigao in Guangxi, and failed to attack Kunlun Pass in Binyang. At that time, it was the Lantern Festival. Di Qing ordered his soldiers to tie straw into dragon shape and set fire to bamboo. In the firefight like sound of bamboo burning and bursting, they danced dragon to make Lantern Festival, so as to paralyze the enemy. As expected, Nong Zhigao relaxed his guard and was finally conquered by Diqing. According to this, local people believe that dragon dance can bring good luck. Every year, dragon dance is held from the 10th to the 15th day of the first lunar month. Later, dragon dance activities are fixed on the 11th day of the first lunar month, gradually forming a unique Dragon Festival.
Binyang paolong Festival is composed of three parts, each part has its own characteristics. "Youcaijia" is also called "Caijia parade". The parade queue is composed of colorful platform, dragon dance team and lion dance team, which is half a mile or even more long. In the middle of the colorful platform, there are several children sitting on specially made fingers or props such as umbrella, fan, sword, bow and knife. They dress up as the image of a specific scene. They are full of charm and are naturally funny. "Lantern party" is commonly known as "lantern party", which includes activities such as drinking in the countryside and taking lanterns. Rural drinking takes villages and streets as a unit. The parents of the last year's boys act as the "leader" to raise "Ding money". Each family sends a man to the ancestral hall or village community to discuss the agricultural production problems of that year, listen to the village rules and regulations, and then have a dinner. On the day of the Lantern Festival, the "leader" led the "father-in-law of Baohua", who had three men and two daughters, and the "mother-in-law of Baohua", who was good at folk songs, to send "Lotus lanterns" from the village temples or ancestral halls. The firecracker dragon dance is the climax of the whole firecracker Dragon Festival. At 7 o'clock on the 11th night of the first month, after lighting the firecracker dragon in temples or places representing the country, a lively firecracker dragon dance performance will be held with dragon balls, dragon lanterns, gongs and drums, and Wenwu hall. After dancing to the designated place at the end of the village, a traditional ceremony of sending the dragon to heaven will be held under the leadership of the meeting leader.
Binyang paolong Festival is an important part of Chinese dragon culture. It can meet the people's psychological needs of praying for blessings and create a peaceful festival atmosphere. Therefore, it has become the research object of folklore, culturology and other disciplines and a useful reference for the construction of a harmonious society. With the acceleration of modernization, the impact of foreign culture on Chinese traditional culture is becoming more and more serious, and Binyang paolong Festival is inevitably affected. In recent years, the activities of paolong Festival have been resumed.
