Introduction to the Dragon Boat Festival
Applicant: Miluo City, Hunan Province
The Dragon Boat Festival along the Miluo River in Hunan Province generally starts from the beginning of May and ends on the 15th. The Dragon Boat Festival Customs in chutang, Yujie, Fenghuangshan, Heshi, Guiyi, Honghua, Xinshi, Wukou, Changle and other areas along the Yangtze River include feast, eating zongzi, inserting Acorus, drinking realgar wine and dragon boat race, as well as special customs such as carving dragon head, stealing sacred wood, singing praises, launching dragon boat, red dragon head, temple worship, dragon sacrifice and sacrifice to Qu Yuan Connotation, left such as "ninghuang a year field, not lose may boat" and many other Dragon Boat Festival ballads. The customs such as watching dragon boat, going back to my mother's home, bidding farewell to the Dragon Boat Festival, inserting Artemisia argyi leaves and drinking yellow rice wine have more strong local characteristics. The above-mentioned customs and cultural scenes have been recorded in scattered words since the Han Dynasty. They are described in Yan Yanzhi's original text of offering sacrifices to Qu in 424 ad, xuqixieji by Wu Jun in the early 6th century AD, and later in the chronicles of the age of Jingchu and geographical records of Sui Dynasty.
The Dragon Boat Festival has made generations of working people influenced by traditional culture, arousing yearning for a better life, praying for the prosperity of the country and the safety of the people, and deeply cherishing the memory of Qu Yuan and other sages. More young men and women regard this festival as an excellent opportunity for blind date and social intercourse.
The distinctive characteristics of the Dragon Boat Festival along the Miluo River can fully show the characteristics of the local culture of the Miluo River. At present, with the change of people's life style, the cultural connotation of the Dragon Boat Festival along the Miluo River is declining day by day, which needs rescue and protection.
