Introduction to traditional construction techniques of wooden arch bridge:
Applicant: Pingnan County, Fujian Province
Chinese bridge construction technology has a history of thousands of years. The ancient working people created excellent bridge technology with their intelligence. One of them is the construction technique of weaving beams and wooden arch bridges, which is mainly spread in Zhejiang, Fujian and other places.
With a long history, rich shapes and numerous quantities, the beam and wood arch bridges in Zhejiang and Fujian are the best among the similar bridges in China. Wooden arch bridge originated from the special type of wooden arch bridge in Tang Dynasty, which has special historical research value and occupies an important position in the history of Chinese bridge construction.
Qingyuan County is located in the southwest of Zhejiang Province, where there are deep valleys and deep streams. People are suffering from "impassable boats" and sighing at the gully. In this case, the wooden arch bridge came into being and became the necessary transportation facilities in mountainous areas. According to Guangxu's Qingyuan county annals, more than 230 wooden arch bridges have been built in Qingyuan County since the Song Dynasty, with more than 90 remaining, ranking first in the country. In September 2005, the Houkeng wooden arch bridge in Qingyuan County won the UNESCO Asia Pacific Cultural Heritage Protection Excellence (first class) award. Taishun County, Zhejiang Province, has also preserved a large number of wooden arch bridges, of which 15 are listed as national cultural relics protection units. Among these wooden arch bridges, Xidong bridge in Longqing period of Ming Dynasty has the longest history.
