Brief introduction of Hezhou Pingxian

Hezhou Pingxian is a kind of folk art which is mainly spread in Linxia city of Gansu Province and its surrounding areas. The form of performance is a person playing three string rap, mainly singing, sometimes speaking. The singing structure is composed of Qupai couplets. The lyrics are elegant and beautiful, and the melody is rich and beautiful, which has high aesthetic value. Most of the performers are literati or folk artists with certain cultural accomplishment.

Since the end of the 20th century, the performance of Hezhou Pingxian has been extremely shrinking, the old artists have died one after another, and the lovers have been lost. At present, there are less than ten Hezhou Pingxian artists in the whole Linxia area, and many librettos have been lost. The endangered situation is worrying, and it is urgent to take effective measures to protect them.
