Chongqing lacquer painting art developed in the Qin and Han Dynasties, flourished in the Sui and Tang Dynasties, continued to the song and Ming and Qing Dynasties, with a unique local style. There are many kinds of lacquerware in Chongqing, mainly including transparent lacquer, black push varnish, thick lacquer, bright lacquer and other lacquering techniques. The products can be divided into six categories according to their uses, including life, entertainment, decoration, tourism, collection and weapons, with about hundreds of varieties. There are dozens of techniques, such as tire making, painting, polishing and so on. There are also some special techniques, such as grinding and painting, eggshell inlay, gold and silver powder separation and so on. Chongqing's lacquerware products have been exported to the Soviet Union, Eastern Europe and other countries, and many times to Europe, America to participate in international cultural exchange activities, also as a national gift to foreign heads of state. Chongqing lacquer works are collected in Beijing Palace Museum, Victoria Museum and China Arts and Crafts Museum. After 1954, Chongqing lacquer ware "golden plate" and "eggshell inlaid Phoenix plate" won many international and national awards. Due to the variation of social development, lacquer products gradually fade out of people's daily life. In addition, Chongqing lacquer painting technology is complex, long working hours, high cost, and the economic benefit is not significant. At present, this ancient craft is in danger of being lost, which is in urgent need of protection and rescue.
