Ningbo gold and silver embroidery
Applicant: Yinzhou District, Ningbo City, Zhejiang Province
Gold and silver colored embroidery, also known as "gold and silver embroidery", is an embroidery with different patterns made of gold and silver threads and other colored threads on silk products. It can not only meet the needs of daily life, but also make costumes and art appreciation. It is mainly used in government, folk festivals, costumes, religion, interior furnishings, etc.
Ningbo gold and silver embroidery is mainly distributed in Yinzhou District and its surrounding areas. Since the Tang Dynasty, mulberry trees have been planted all over the place, silkworm rearing and cocoon stripping have a tradition of "weaving mats and embroidery for every family". Ningbo gold and silver colored embroidery has experienced a long historical evolution. According to relevant historical records and unearthed cultural relics, although the history of Chinese embroidery can be traced back to the Warring States period, as an independent work of gold and silver colored embroidery, the earliest objects can be found in the Tang Dynasty costumes. After the Song Dynasty, the objects of gold and silver colored embroidery gradually increased.
In the Qing Dynasty, there were many embroidery workshops, official embroidery workshops, folk embroidery clothes and embroidery houses inside and outside Yinxian. During the period of the Republic of China, Haishen temple and Xiantang street in Ningbo had become trade streets, with about 30-40 embroidery shops. After the 1950s, there were embroidery cooperatives and embroidery factories in Ningbo to produce gold and silver colored embroidery, which lasted until the 1990s.
The main techniques of Ningbo gold and silver color embroidery are "plate gold (silver)" and "filling gold (silver)", which fully mobilize the characteristics of materials and technology, enhance the texture and sense of space of graphics; the use of large areas of gold and silver makes any color coexist harmoniously on the same screen, showing a magnificent and elegant artistic effect; the pursuit of the organic combination of gold thread, silver thread and color thread It is characterized by the combination of coarse and fine, the combination of point and surface, the combination of plate without knot, and the skillful application of needling.
With the development of commodity economy and the high cost and low income of manual embroidery, fewer and fewer people are engaged in gold and silver embroidery. At present, only four or five people in Yinzhou District of Ningbo are still engaged in this industry. Gold and silver embroidery is in urgent need of protection and inheritance.
