Introduction to Manchu embroidery (Xiuyan Manchu folk embroidery)
Applicant: Xiuyan Manchu Autonomous County, Liaoning Province
Embroidery is the most distinctive traditional art of Manchu, which has been popular among Manchu people since ancient times. Manchu embroidery is very practical and can be seen everywhere in daily necessities and clothing, among which the pillow top embroidery is the most exquisite. Manchu embroidery absorbs the advantages of Suzhou embroidery, Shu embroidery, Guang embroidery and other famous Han Embroidery, and skillfully integrates them with the aesthetic concepts and living customs of the nation, forming its own character and charm, which shows the ancient and simple folk customs of the Manchu ancestors and the skillful hand spirit of the Eight Banners women. Manchu embroidery materials are mainly yarn or satin fabrics, supplemented by self-woven fabrics and blue and white fabrics. In the layout of the works, the left and right sides should be symmetrical, or they should echo each other equally, or they should be left Green Dragon and right white tiger, or they should be cut and embroidered to make the left and right sides completely consistent. There are many kinds of Manchu embroidery, including birds and animals, flowers, fish and insects, characters and stories, which express the meaning of praying for good luck. The composition of embroidery continues the traditional technical rules of our country, peeling layer by layer, alternating density, achieving "sparse can run horse, dense can't breathe", showing a very high artistic level.
Xiuyan Manchu folk embroidery is popular in Xiuyan Manchu Autonomous County of Liaoning Province, which has a long history of nearly 400 years. Xiuyan Manchu folk embroidery is mainly made of satin, gauze and coarse cloth. Most of its products are practical products, including embroidered clothes, embroidered shoes, embroidered hat and purse, cigarette bag, waist girdle, money girdle, shawl, bandage, pillow top, table girdle, bedspread, etc. Xiuyan Manchu folk embroidery techniques are unique, including complicated embroidery techniques such as tie embroidery, Satin Embroidery, cut embroidery, mend embroidery, package embroidery and knitting embroidery, as well as abundant needling techniques such as looping, grabbing, disorderly, long, locking, flower needling, tie needling and holding needling. Each method is often used in embroidery practice, which is like a dragon and snake flying in the air The style characteristic of being loose or rigorous and delicate. Xiuyan Manchu folk embroidery fully shows the artistic creation enthusiasm and aesthetic ideal of the local Manchu people, and vividly shows the main features of Xiuyan Manchu social life, which has the research value of sociology and ethnology.
