Introduction to the legend of Yellow Crane Tower
Applicant: Wuchang District, Wuhan City, Hubei Province
The legend of Yellow Crane Tower is based on the Yellow Crane Tower in Sheshan mountain, Wuchang City, Wuhan City, Hubei Province. It has a long history, profound foundation and abundant resources. Its origin began in the Three Kingdoms and the northern and Southern Dynasties. At that time, frequent wars, dark politics and painful life provided fertile soil for the prevalence of Buddhism and Taoism. People hope to get rid of the reality of suffering, move their hope from this life to the afterlife, turn from the earth to heaven, and dream of transcending the world and becoming immortal. Therefore, the story of "immortal riding Crane" came into being. The earliest written work is Shuyi Ji written by Zu Chongzhi of the Southern Dynasty, but this book has been lost. The earliest writing that can be seen now is preserved in Xiao Zixian's Nanqi Shu. After that, there are four official histories and some important books and legends.
The legend of the Yellow Crane Tower can be roughly divided into three categories: fairy legend, celebrity anecdotes and historical stories. Its basic titles include Zian driving crane, Feiyi ascending to heaven, immortal playing flute, orange peel painting crane, etc.
The unique geographical environment, vivid folklore, and exquisite poems, words, essays and couplets have made the yellow crane tower a famous tower through the ages. The legend of the Yellow Crane Tower is the soul of the historical tower and the foundation for its survival and development.
The legend of the Yellow Crane Tower is ancient, and it is alive. Its story theme of "harmony between man and nature", less greed and less desire, punishing evil and promoting good, civilian narrative techniques, harmonious coexistence of gods, characters and creatures, twists and turns of plot development and often unexpected endings not only fit the aesthetic psychology of Chinese people, but also can be recognized worldwide.
The legend of the Yellow Crane Tower inspired the creation of poets and great men from Cui Hao, Li Bai, Su Dongpo, Yue Fei to Mao Zedong, and gave birth to many poems and prose like Zhuji, which greatly promoted the development of Chinese Romantic Literature and Taoist literature. It also influenced the sister arts of painting (including New Year pictures), architecture, opera, quyi, music, and even penetrated into the field of language.
