Jiulou, also known as Honglou, is popular in Dongyang City, Zhejiang Province. It is said that it was first related to the Great Wall sacrifice of Meng Jiangnu in Qin Dynasty, and it is a part of the ritual form of folk Taoism. The purpose of this activity is: to pray for peace, to transcend the dead, and to dispel evil. "Jiuloutai" is generally arranged one day in advance. Two 13 meter high (9-storey) thick Chinese fir trees are erected on the site, which are called "jiulongzhu". Then 11 or 13 "jiuloutai" tables (9-storey, 11 storey, etc.) with height of 1 meter, length of 1.5 meter and width of 0.7 meter are stacked close to jiulongzhu to form jiuloutai. There are altar, fairy bridge, nine gates arched with water bamboo, star bamboo erected with big bamboo, and a magic mirror hung on it. The ninth floor can be made up of up to 23 Kowloon tables.
At the beginning of the activity, a series of rituals were held by "mountain people" (Taoists), and then the ninth floor was officially turned. Two "nine floor pioneers" climbed up to the top of the nine floor platform from bottom to top, burned the excessive documents, and then went down the nine floor from top to bottom. After "mountain man" preached, the "ninth floor master" climbed the ninth floor for the second time. After performing "open fan" and "throw gift", he began to do some thrilling and difficult movements, such as vertical Dragonfly (Handstand), rolling fork, meteor hammer, sliding five pieces (rope), and then turned himself up and down. After that, he called the wizard to destroy the disaster and collect the cost (disaster). Finally, the "mountain man" blew the Dragon horn to avoid evil spirits.
The performance routine of the ninth floor has a certain impact on modern acrobatics, and has a high value of folklore and religion research.
With the increase of the age of the existing artists, fanjiulou, a long-standing folk activity, has gradually declined and is in urgent need of rescue and protection.
