Introduction to traditional Daur hockey competition:
Declaration area or unit: Molidawa Daur Autonomous Banner, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region
According to historical records, the movement of "step play" prevailed in the Tang Dynasty, which is very similar to the contemporary hockey. Footplay was still popular in the Liao Dynasty. In the history of Liao Dynasty, it was called "hitting Ju", and the curved bat at the lower end was called "Yuezhan". With the passage of time, this sport disappeared in other ethnic groups in our country, and has been inherited and developed in the Daur nationality. Now this kind of hockey is mainly distributed in the Daur nationality inhabited area of Molidawa Daur Autonomous Banner in Inner Mongolia.
Daur's traditional hockey sport is called "beikuotarikebei" in Daur language, in which "beikuo" refers to the club, which is made of oak wood with curved roots and straight branches. In Da language, the ball is called "Pulei". It is as big as baseball and can be divided into three kinds: wooden ball, wool ball and fireball. Occasionally, bone ball is also used. The wooden ball is made of oak root; the wool ball is made of animal hair; the fireball is mainly used for night sports. It is made of hardened white fungus growing on birch tree, with hard shell and empty inside. Several holes are drilled on the ball to inject Songming, and the fireworks will not go out after lighting.
Most of the traditional Daur hockey matches are held in the clan (Mokun) or village as a unit during major festivals, gatherings or free time. Most of the venues are selected in flat grass or open places in the village. There is no uniform rule on the size of the venue. There is a goal at each end of the venue. The number of two teams participating in the game is equal, and the winner is the one who scores more goals. The rules of the game stipulate that it is not allowed to snatch or hit the ball from the left side, to hit or mix people with a bat, to press the ball with hands or to kick with feet except for the goalkeeper.
Daur traditional hockey is a typical representative of traditional hockey and a unique skill in Chinese sports. In 1989, the National Sports Commission named Moqi as "the hometown of hockey". Nowadays, there is a shortage of funds and talents in the professional construction of traditional Daur hockey, which should be supported to ensure its smooth inheritance and further development.
