Qinghai Pingxian, also known as "Xining Fuzi", is widely spread in Haidong area with Xining City as the center, with a history of more than 200 years.

Pingxian, Qinghai, sings stories in local dialect, but not in spoken language. Its performance form is kind and simple, and many tunes are sung with "pulling the sheath", which is often called "helping tune". The audience can naturally integrate into the performance through "helping tune", forming a special live effect. Qinghai Pingxian is often accompanied by small national bands. The accompaniment instruments include Sanxian, Yangqin, Banhu, Yueqin, dizi, erhu, etc. the melody is rich and varied when playing, which shows the track of the evolution of classical music in Qinghai. There are many tunes in Pingxian aria, which belong to the combination of Qupai. It is known as "Eighteen miscellaneous tunes and twenty-four Tunes". It is based on the changing tunes of "Fu Zi" in the south, absorbing the north and South Sanqu, ancient and modern Xiaoqu and other Qupai. Fuzi tunes are the main tunes that mark the style of tunes. In addition, Qinghai Pingxian has several kinds of tunes, such as Beigong, zaqiang, Xiaodian, xiabeigong, which can be called a rich music mine.

The traditional repertoire of Pingxian in Qinghai is rich and colorful. There are more than 200 records collected from different places, covering history, politics, culture, social customs, ethics and so on. These works are mostly based on historical stories, folklore, Tang poetry and Song Ci, yuan and Ming Dramas, Ming and Qing legends and classic novels, such as "White Ape stealing peach" from "Sun Tzu's art of war", "Confucius worship" from Dunhuang Bianwen, "Mi Jian you gong" from "Shuo Tang", "Shui man Jin Shan" from "White Snake", and so on. Some of them even directly sing classical poems and verses. Qinghai Pingxian is an important carrier of history and culture in Haidong area, which has a certain reference value in the study of folklore, ethnology and quyi. At present, there is no successor in Pingxian, Qinghai Province, which is in an endangered state and needs to be protected for inheritance.
