Xiangyang Huagu opera is popular in Xiangfan City, Hubei Province. Before 1949, there were more than 100 "perennial teams" and "seasonal teams" throughout Xiangfan. The prototype of Xiangyang Huagu opera is "two small operas". Later, under the influence of Qing opera, Erhuang opera and Hubei Yuediao opera, it gradually developed into banqiang music, which can play a variety of roles. Xiangyang Huagu opera has four kinds of tunes: taoqiang, hanqiang, Siping Qiang and caiqiang, accompanied by gongs and drums. In 1950, the artists added a single accompaniment of gongs and drums to the theatrical performance, and some actresses appeared, which injected fresh vitality into the drama. The most frequently performed plays include white haired girl, yipinxiang, legend of Song Yu, etc.

Xiangyang Huagu opera has distinctive musical characteristics and strong regional characteristics. Influenced by the culture of the South and the north, it not only has the high pitched and rough of the north, but also has the delicate and euphemistic of the south. It provides detailed information for the study of the drama music of the South and the North in China.
