Applicant: Anshan City, Liaoning Province
Xiuyan shadow play was introduced into Xiuyan area of Anshan City in Liaoning Province in Ming and Qing Dynasties, and has a history of more than 300 years. In the early stage, shadow play was in the form of "solo shadow". In the period of Tongzhi in the Qing Dynasty, "Liukou shadow" was formed. After the Republic of China, it evolved into "fanshu shadow". Now Xiuyan shadow play still retains part of the original form of "Liukou shadow".
Xiuyan shadow play is rich in singing music, including big adagio, Adagio, flowing water, fast flowing water and allegro. There are two kinds of singing methods according to Sheng, Dan, Jing, Mo and Chou, each of which has a fixed singing style. According to the syntactic structure, the singing can be divided into "three chasing seven", "hard singing", "seven character sentence", "five character brocade" and "cross" Jin, dalazui and other performances absorb the stylized performance methods of traditional Chinese opera and depict the characters around the plot. Xiuyan shadow play has many volumes, large head and complicated content, with nearly 100 traditional plays and more than 20 modern plays.
Before the founding of new China, Xiuyan had 19 cases of shadow puppets and more than 40 actors. After the founding of new China, Xiuyan shadow play has developed rapidly. In 1965, the county had more than 30 cases of shadow play and more than 80 shadow artists. At present, Xiuyan shadow play is in a serious decline. In 2004, there were only 6 cases of shadow play and only 21 artists, most of whom were over 60 years old. Xiuyan shadow play is difficult to survive and lack of inheritance.
