Huangmei Opera, also known as "Huangmei tune", originated from tea picking tune in Huangmei County, Hubei Province. At the end of the Qing Dynasty, it was introduced into Huaining County, Anhui Province and other adjacent areas, and gradually developed into a kind of opera by integrating with the local folk art. Huangmei Opera is a kind of opera gradually formed and developed from folk song, Yangko, tea song, tea picking lamp and flower drum tune, which first came into the countryside and then into the city. It absorbed the factors of Han Opera, Chu opera, Gaoqiang opera, Tea Picking Opera, Peking Opera and so on, and gradually formed its own artistic characteristics.

In 1952, Anhui Huangmei Opera Troupe, the first professional Huangmei Opera Troupe in China, was established in Hefei, Anhui Province. Huangmei Opera has made a qualitative leap in music accompaniment, singing skills and other aspects. Its overall artistic level has been improved in an all-round way, and its influence is expanding day by day. It has become a famous cultural brand and symbolic cultural image in Anhui Province.

Anhui Huangmei Opera Theater has a group of excellent talents, such as Yan Fengying, Wang Shaofang, Ma Lan, Huang Xinde, etc., who have successively performed a large number of excellent plays, such as Tianxianpei, nvfuma, Niulang Zhinv, Da Zhucao, Hongloumeng, fengfengli Renxing, thunderstorm, etc.
