Introduction to Yuediao

Yuediao is one of the main local operas in Henan Province. It is popular in Henan, Northern Hubei, Shaanxi, Shanxi and some parts of Anhui. It has a history of more than 300 years.

Yuediao has a unique artistic style and a broad mass base. Its tonal music is mainly Yuediao, and it also has the characteristics of folk music in Central Plains and strong local flavor. Yuediao has a wide range of roles, including dahonglian, erhonglian, Wensheng, wusheng, Dajing, Ermiao, sanhualian, Zhengdan, Huadan, guimendan, langdan, Wudan, laodan and so on. Some famous performing schools have been formed in the performance practice. There are more than 300 kinds of traditional and new plays in Yuediao, many of which are familiar and loved by the masses.

Xuchang Yuediao is one of the representatives of Henan Yuediao. Mao Ailian, a famous actor of this kind of opera, has a distinctive style and unique singing style. It is known as "Maoist art" and has a great influence on the audience.
