Shangdang Bangzi

Shangdang Bangzi is one of the four major Bangzi operas in Shanxi Province, which is popular in the ancient Shangdang County in the southeast of Shanxi Province. It was formed in the late Ming and early Qing Dynasty, and was officially known as "local opera" in the late Daoguang period of Qing Dynasty. In 1934, he went to Taiyuan to perform, which was renamed "shangdanggongdiao", and the local people called it "Daxi". In 1954, the first Shanxi opera performance conference was named Shangdang Bangzi.
Shangdang Bangzi mainly sings Bangzi tune, and also sings Kunqu Opera, pihuang opera, Luoxi opera and Juanxi opera, commonly known as "Kun Opera, Bangzi opera, Luoxi opera, Juanxi opera and Huangxi" (among which Luoxi opera and Juanxi opera are rarely performed). Shangdang Bangzi has a wide range of businesses, with Sheng, Jing, Qingyi and Wu Xiaosheng playing the most, while Xiaosheng, Xiaodan and clown plays do not play an important role. The basic performance program of various trades is called "three handedness", which shows a steady, powerful, strong and lively performance style with head raised and chest straightened, wrist soft and arm round. Shangdang opera is rich in repertoire, with more than 700 traditional performances.
In 1985, the southeast of Shanxi Province was divided into Jincheng city and Changzhi City. Shangdang Bangzi troupe moved to Jincheng city. Changzhi mainly performed shangdangluozi, and the stage was relatively single. In 1994, Changzhi Shangdang Bangzi troupe was established, which absorbed a group of more powerful grassroots actors to join, forming a powerful performance team. The troupe continued to perform in the countryside, and made unremitting efforts throughout the year, which cultivated and consolidated the audience group of Changzhi and laid a foundation for the further development of Shangdang Bangzi.
