Meili town
Meili town is under the jurisdiction of Changshu City, Jiangsu Province. In 908 ad, the first year of Tianbao in the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms, the king of Wu and Yue garrisoned Mei Shizhong and Li Kaishan. The residents of Meili town took the surname of the two generals and named the place after them. Meili town is located in the northeast of Changshu, with Shanghai in the East, Suzhou in the south, Wuxi in the West and the Yangtze River in the north. With a history of more than 1100 years, it is known as "18 towns in Dongxiang, the first town in Meili".
With a total area of 80.84 square kilometers, Meili town governs 15 administrative villages and 3 communities, with a population of 109892 (2017).
Meili town is a pilot town of administrative system reform of economically developed towns in Jiangsu Province, a pilot area of comprehensive supporting reform of urban-rural integration development in Suzhou, and a demonstration site of beautiful town construction in Suzhou. In October 2019, it was selected as one of the "Top 1000 towns with comprehensive strength in China in 2019". On December 24, 2019, it will be included in the list of national rural governance demonstration towns.
In July 2020, the National Patriotic Health Association confirmed Meili town as a national health Township in 2019.
Evolution of organizational system
In the Tang Dynasty, the later collection of Wu Di Ji contains: "Twelve capitals of Changshu County: Jishan, Kaiyuan, Taiping, reformatory, Nansha, Chongsu, Duanwei, guizheng, Shuangfeng, Sizheng, Guoxing, Shengping.". Mei and Li belong to Kaiyuan.
In Song Dynasty, according to Yuanfeng jiuyu annals, Changshu County governs nine townships and three towns, and Meili is one of them.
During the period of Duanping in the Southern Song Dynasty, nine townships under Changshu county had jurisdiction over 50 capitals, and Meili was roughly the 25th and 26th capitals of Kaiyuan township.
In the Yuan Dynasty, in the first year of Yuanzhen (1295 A.D.), Changshu county was upgraded to Changshu Prefecture, and Li was changed to Tu, which was divided into Chang, Du and Tu below the township. Mei and Li belong to the twenty capitals of the east two fairs and the twenty-five capitals of the East three fairs. They belong to the east two venues and twenty capitals: one to Meili, two to three to Meili north, four to Meili East, five to Meili south, thirteen to Meili south, and twenty to Meidong River Bridge. It belongs to the 25 capitals of the East Sanchang: youliututangqiao, the 18 upper and lower zhaijiao, and qingshuigang.
In the Qing Dynasty, in the fourth year of Yongzheng (1726 AD), Zhaowen county was set up in the east of Changshu County, and Meili was subordinate to Kaiyuan township of Zhaowen county.
In 1910, Changshu county and Zhaowen county were divided into 35 townships and Meili city.
In August 1929, Changshu county was divided into 15 districts. Meili city belongs to Meitang district.
In April 1934, the county was divided into eight districts, and Meili district (the Second District) was established. The district office was located in Meili Town, with jurisdiction over 5 towns and 37 townships.
In May 1936, Meili district was expanded into 5 towns, 8 townships, 169 Bao and 2326a. The former meibei Town, Shide Township, jusha Township and chiwu Township were merged into Meili Town, and the former Wanliu Township, Tangqiao Township and Taosha Township were merged into Tangqiao town.
In March 1950, the county was divided into 14 districts and 218 townships, and Meili District governed 19 townships. Meili town is now divided into Meili, jusha, Fanshen (changed to Jingxiang Township in September 1953), Qingshui, Shide, Tangdi and chiwu. In the second half of the year, Baojia was abolished and administrative villages and villager groups were established.
In November 1952, the county designated Meili township as a town directly under Meili district.
In September 1957, the whole county was withdrawn from the district and merged with the township. Now the whole Meili town is merged into MeiLiDa Township, which is directly under the county.
In October 1958, a rural people's commune was established in Meili Township, which was renamed Meili people's commune. The government and society should be integrated.
In March 1981, the Revolutionary Committee of Meili people's commune was abolished and renamed the Management Committee of Meili people's commune.
In 1983, the government and society were separated and renamed Meili Township People's government, which directly belongs to Changshu City.
On April 5, 1986, Meili Town People's government was established.

The parent material of the soil to the east of yantietang is the Yangtze river alluvium, mainly sandy soil and fluvo aquic sandy soil.
