Yangchenghu town
Yangchenghu town belongs to Xiangcheng District of Suzhou city. It is located in the northeast of Xiangcheng District of Suzhou City, adjacent to Changshu in the north, Kunshan in the East, Wuxi in the West and Suzhou Industrial Park in the south. The town covers a total area of 62.84 square kilometers (2017), with 10 administrative villages and 2 communities, and a total population of 62048 (2017).
Yangchenghu town is the origin and main producing area of hairy crabs in Yangchenghu lake. It is located in the northern subtropical coastal area, with abundant rainfall, long frost free period, prevailing monsoon, mild and humid climate and four distinct seasons.
In 2010, the town's GDP was 2.86 billion yuan, an increase of 19.8%; the local general budget revenue was 127 million yuan, an increase of 31.68%.
In October 2019, Yangchenghu town was selected as one of the "Top 1000 towns with comprehensive strength in China in 2019". On July 29, 2020, it will be included in the list of national health towns (counties) to be reconfirmed in 2019.
History of construction
In the Shang Dynasty (about the 11th century BC), Taibo, the eldest son and Zhongyong, the second son of gugonghe, went to Jiangnan to establish Gouwu. At that time, Yangcheng Lake swamp area belonged to Gouwu territory.
During the spring and Autumn period and the Warring States period, Yangcheng Lake depression was the territory of Wu, Yue, Chu and Qin.
In the 26th year of the first emperor of Qin Dynasty (221 BC), Wu County was established as the former capital of Wu state. Since then, Yangcheng Lake marsh low-lying area under the jurisdiction of Wu County.
After the Han, Jin, southern and Northern Dynasties, Sui and Tang Dynasties, Wu county changed its name many times, and Yangcheng Lake depression all belonged to it.
Long live Wuzhou Tongtian first year (696), cut Wuxian set Changzhou County, Yangcheng Lake depression into Changzhou county.
During the reign of song Yuanfeng (1078-1085), the county was divided into DUBAO (township), Dabao and Baobao. Today Chenghu town is divided into Wugong, Yidi and Yiren townships in Changzhou county.
In the middle of song Shaoxing (1131-1162), Yangcheng Lake depression gradually converged into a lake, with two northeast to southwest peninsulas extending into the lake. Today, Yangcheng Lake town was formed, and it was named "Weijing" in the early Ming Dynasty.
In 1724, Yuanhe county was established in the southeast of Changzhou county. Today, Chenghu town is under the jurisdiction of Yidi township (jinshenli), Yiren township (Renyili) in Changzhou county and Wugong township (baozuoli) in Yuanhe County until the end of Qing Dynasty.
In January 1912, the Qing Dynasty, Suzhou Fu, Wu County, Changzhou County, Yuanhe County as Wu County, began to set up Jijing township. Today, Chenghu town is under the jurisdiction of Weijing Township and Xiangcheng city.
In August 1929, Shujing township was withdrawn and divided into 19 small townships, belonging to the 15th district (Shujing District) and the 7th District (Xiangcheng District) of Wu County; in February 1934, it was merged into five small townships, belonging to the 9th District (Weiting District) and the 7th District (Xiangcheng District) of Wu County.
In November 1937, Fujing township was restored. In 1947, there were two townships of Weijing and Xiaolu, which belonged to Yangcheng District of Wu County. In February of the next year, Lu township was abolished, and Xiaojing part was merged into Weijing, and the membership remained unchanged.
In April 1949, Wu County was liberated, and the jurisdiction of townships and towns remained unchanged. In March 1950, the original Weijing township was divided into three townships: Weijing, Yangcheng and Xiaojing, all belonging to Yangcheng District of Wu County.
In March 1956, the former two townships of Weijing and Yangcheng were co organized into Weijing township; Xiaojing Township and Luxiang Township were co organized into Xiaolu Township, and the district ownership remained unchanged.
In March 1957, the district was withdrawn and the township was merged. Xiaojing District of Xiaolu township was merged into Weijing Township, which was subordinate to Wu County.
In November 1992, Weijing township was renamed Yangchenghu township; in February 1994, Yangchenghu township was withdrawn and Yangchenghu town was established. The town government was stationed at No. 1, Yangcheng street, Yangchenghu (city) town, and its membership remained unchanged. In July 1995, Wu County was changed into Wu County City, and Yangchenghu town was subordinate to Wu County City, which remained unchanged until the end of 2000.

On May 1, 1949, Yangcheng district was designated to govern Taiping, Xiangcheng and Kuatang towns, and Weijing and Weiting townships. The administrative jurisdiction of Weijing Township remained unchanged, and the 25 townships were merged into 9 townships. In the winter of this year, the system of abolishing Baojia was established into administrative villages and groups. Weijing countryside governs two towns of Weijing and Xiaojing. There are 21 administrative villages in the countryside, including Xisha, Qingshui, LIANGANG, Donggang, Zhanggang, Xinnan, Bailou, Zhongxin, Xinbei, Beiqian, changbang, Dongtang, Jiefang, Antan, Tuanjie, chedu, Xiyang, Lianhua, Yangdong, Yangzhong and Yongjiu, with a total of 155 administrative groups. The township administrative area is about 42.33 square kilometers.
In March 1950, three villages of Yangdong, Yangzhong and Yongjiu were added into xuanzhu township of Weiting District, and Weijing township was divided into three small townships of Weijing, Yangcheng and Xiaojing. Weijing countryside governs Weijing town and five administrative villages of Xinbei, Zhongxin, Bailou, Xinjing and Lianhua, covering an area of about 10.78 square kilometers. Yangcheng township has five administrative villages, Zhanggang, Donggang, LIANGANG, Qingshui and Xisha, covering an area of 6.71 square kilometers. Xiaojing rural area governs Xiaojing town and eight administrative villages including changbang, Beiqian, Dongtang, Jiefang, Antan, Tuanjie, chedu and Xiyang, with an administrative area of about 19.8 square kilometers.
In March 1956, Weijing Township and Yangcheng Township were merged into Weijing Township, with an administrative area of 17.49 square kilometers. Xiaojing Township and Luxiang township are merged into Xiaolu Township, and the administrative villages under its jurisdiction remain unchanged. After the agricultural cooperation, the administrative village changed its social name.
In 1957, Weijing township was merged with Xiaojing township to form Weijing Township, which has jurisdiction over Weijing and Xiaojing towns, 18 advanced agricultural cooperatives and 1 fishery production cooperative, with an administrative area of 37.29 square kilometers.
In March 1958, it was transformed into Weijing people's commune, under which there were seven agricultural production brigades (later divided into 16 agricultural production brigades) and one fishery production brigade. By 1960, the whole society had 190 production teams under its jurisdiction, including two towns of Weijing and Xiaojing, 18 agricultural production teams and one fishery production team.
In July 1983, the system of Township, village and group was restored. In November 1992, it was renamed Yangchenghu township. In February 1994, it was withdrawn from the township to build Yangchenghu town.

Yangchenghu town is located in Taihu Plain of Yangtze River Delta with flat terrain. The average ground elevation is 4.48 m (based on Wusong elevation), the maximum elevation is 5.9 m, and the minimum elevation is 2.0 M. the flow direction of water in the town is from northwest to Southeast. The terrain of the town is narrow from east to west and long from south to north. The land in the south is in the shape of "human legs" and extends into Yangcheng Lake. The main island and Lianhua Island naturally divide the whole Yangcheng Lake into East, middle and West Lakes. The coastline of the whole town is 61.23 kilometers long, with a typical water town in the south of the Yangtze River.

The annual average frost free period is 235 days. The first frost occurs in late October at the earliest and early December at the latest. The annual average precipitation is 1063 mm and the annual precipitation days are 125 days.

In the early days of liberation, 26.45 square kilometers (39675 mu) of land were in rural areas, including 38466 mu of arable land. From the 1960s to the mid-1970s, the area of cultivated land increased slightly. In the mid-1980s, with the development of rural industry and town construction, part of the land was expropriated for business, building houses, factories and roads, and lake bank erosion over the years. The cultivated land area decreased year by year. By 2000, the cultivated land area of the whole town was 21891 mu.
At the end of 2000, of the 25.03 square kilometers (37545 mu) of land in the town, 2638.2 Mu are state-owned land and 34906.8 Mu are collectively owned land.
