Weitang Town
Weitang Town belongs to Xiangcheng District of Suzhou City, adjacent to Taiping Town and Yangchenghu town in the East, Likou town in the south, Huangdai town and Beiqiao town in the west, and Xinzhuang Town in Changshu in the north. The total area of the town is 39.36 square kilometers. In 2000, Weitang Town had 24 administrative villages, 2 community neighborhood committees and 85866 people (2017). Weitang Town is a key center town in Jiangsu Province, the hometown of freshwater pearl in China, a health town in Jiangsu Province, and a model town of modernization construction in Suzhou city.
Weitang Town Ring Expressway, 227 provincial road, suyuzhang highway, planned light rail line 2 and intercity railway pass through the area, and the town roads extend in all directions. At the end of 2000, there were one complete middle school, six complete primary schools, one village primary school, nine kindergartens and one adult education center school in the town. In 2018, the national health county (township) was reconfirmed. In October 2019, Weitang Town was selected as one of the "Top 1000 towns with comprehensive strength in China in 2019".
History of construction
In the 26th year of the first emperor of Qin Dynasty (221 BC), Wu County was established in Qin Dynasty, and Weitang area belongs to Wu County. In the first year of Tongtian (696), Wu County was divided into Wu County and Changzhou County, and Weitang area belonged to Changzhou county. Weitang, known as weijingtang in Tang, song, yuan and Ming Dynasties, belongs to Wu County. In the late Ming Dynasty, it was called weijingtang and belonged to Changzhou county. In January 1912, Wu County, Changzhou county and Yuanhe County in Qing Dynasty were merged into Wu County. In November, Weijing Town, Yangshang Township, Yangzhen Township and Xiansheng township are under the jurisdiction of Lumu City, Wuxian County; Xuejing Township, Fenghuangjing Township and Maoxiang township are under the jurisdiction of Nanbei Bridge City, Wuxian county. In August 1929, the city was transformed into a district, and the district township system was implemented. Lumu city is the Sixth District of Wu County, and nanbeiqiao city is the eighth district. In August 1934, Wu County merged the Sixth District, the eighth district and the twelfth District into the Sixth District, and the district office was located in Huangdai town. Jurisdiction over the territory of Weijing Town, Yangshang Township, Xuejing township. In 1947, Wuxian county was divided into districts, townships and towns, with Weijing town and Xuejing Township under the jurisdiction of Huangdai district. In February 1948, Weijing town and Xuejing Township merged into Weixue Township, which is under the jurisdiction of Huangdai district. On April 27, 1949, Weixue township was liberated. In March 1950, Weixue township was abolished and Weitang Township, Yanghe Township and Xinxue Township were built respectively. The Township People's Committee is: No. 112 Zhongjie street, Yangshang Zhou Temple, and North xuet Jing Town God's Temple, under the jurisdiction of Yangcheng District, Wuxian. In March 1956, Yanghe township was abolished and assigned to Weitang Township and Xinxue Township respectively under the jurisdiction of Yangcheng District of Wu County. In March 1957, the district was withdrawn and the township was merged. Weitang Township, Xinxue Township, Shiqiao Township and Nihui Township were merged to form Weitang township. The township government is located at 112 middle street. On September 25, 1958, Weitang people's commune was established by withdrawing the township and establishing the commune. On April 16, 1968, the Weitang people's commune Revolutionary Committee was established. In October 1981, the Revolutionary Committee of Weitang people's commune was abolished. JianWeiTang people's commune management committee. In July 1983, the government and society were separated and renamed Weitang township. In March 1985, the government moved to 19 West Street. Weitang Town is located in the north of Xiangcheng District. Its geographical coordinates are 31 ° 15 ′ - 31 ° 31 ′, 120 ° 33 ′ - 120 ° 54 ′, covering an area of 39.36 square kilometers. geology
The geological structure in Weitang belongs to the Suxi fault zone. The northeast side of the fault zone is a subsidence area with a thick central Cenozoic volcanic rock and laterite layer, and the southwest side is relatively uplifted. In geological history, magmatic intrusion and volcanic activity are strong along the fault zone. However, the geological structure is very developed in the territory, and the underground rock mass is subjected to intense compression, tension, shear and torsion, and fracture. In underground mines, a fault can be seen at an average of 15 meters, and the smaller one is more. Due to the complex superposition of faults, the integrity of the bunker is damaged, the rigid strength is greatly reduced, there are many contacts between the address blocks, and the stress points are not easy to concentrate. Therefore, the geological structure in the territory is not easy to accumulate huge energy, and the earthquakes are all wavelet type, and the most sensitive earthquakes are the ones affected by other places.

Weitang Town is a low-lying polder plain. The maximum distance between the north and the south is 7.7 km, and the East and the west is 8.6 km. With yuanhetang as the center, the terrain is high around and low in the middle, forming a small dish like depression. The northeast is slightly higher than the southwest. According to the elevation of Wusongkou, the highest altitude is 4 meters, the lowest is 2.5 meters, generally below 3 meters, and most of them are below the flood level. The plain is densely covered with water networks, and the water depth of the river is generally about 2.5-3 meters. There are shengzedang, yuanhetang, etc. in the area, the water surface of Hedang accounts for 32.5% of the land area. The ground height is above and below the normal water level, the groundwater level is high, and it is close to the surface in the depression all the year round. The surface is composed of fluvial alluvial and lacustrine materials, and the soil is mainly composed of lacustrine swamp sedimentary clay.

Weitang Town belongs to the humid monsoon climate type in the middle subtropical zone. Due to the regulation of the ocean and the Yangtze River, it has the characteristics of four distinct seasons, warm and humid, abundant rainfall, sufficient sunshine and long frost free period. There is a big difference in temperature between day and night in four seasons, long winter and summer, short spring and autumn. Generally, the period from late March to early June is spring with changeable temperature and continuous rain; the period from mid June to mid September is summer with hot and rainy weather; the period from late September to mid November is autumn with clear air; the period from late November to mid March of the next year is winter with cold and less rain.

In Weitang Town, there are many rivers, and the water area is 12.8 square kilometers, accounting for 34.5% of the total area. There are 183 large and small rivers with a total length of 167.61 km. The main rivers are yuanhetang, Jiejing River, nanxuejing, weijingtang, yongchangjing and yechangjing. In addition, there are beijialou River, Beitang River, santuwai River, lujiaqiao River, gaojingyan River and other major inland rivers.

In 1950, the cultivated land area in Weitang area was 9710.735 mu in Weitang Township, 10205.722 mu in Yanghe Township and 12130.846 mu in Xinxue township. In March 1956, Yanghe township was abolished. The cultivated land area of Weitang township is 18416.457 mu, and that of Xinxue township is 13630.846 mu. In March 1957, Weitang Township had 36099.511 mu of cultivated land. From the end of 1960s to the middle of 1970s, land leveling was greatly carried out.
