Zhenhu street is located in the high tech Zone of Suzhou City, Jiangsu Province, adjacent to the Beijing Hangzhou Grand Canal in the East, Wuzhong District in the south, Xiangcheng District in the north and Taihu Lake in the West. The total area of the town is 20.19 square kilometers, the total population is 20492 people (2010), and the population density is 973.75 people per square kilometer. It has 13 administrative villages, 1 fishing village and 1 town. Zhenhu is the main birthplace of Suzhou embroidery. In 1998 and 2000, Zhenhu was awarded "hometown of embroidery art" by the Provincial Department of culture and the Ministry of culture of the people's Republic of China. In 2006, Zhenhu was named as the national agricultural tourism demonstration site by the National Tourism Administration
Historical evolution
According to Lu Guangwei's Wu Di Ji in the late Tang Dynasty, there are 20 capitals in Wu County, of which Xihua is one. In 221 B.C., the first emperor of Qin unified China and carried out the system of prefectures and counties. Xihua (Zhenhu) belongs to Wu County. In the Han and Tang Dynasties, Suzhou and Wujun changed each other several times, but Xihua was under the jurisdiction of Wuxian. According to the records of Yuanfeng nine regions compiled by Wang Cun in Song Dynasty, Xihua township was set up in Northern Song Dynasty, which was subordinate to Wu County, and the old system was followed from Yuan Dynasty to Qing Dynasty. After the Qing Dynasty, yexihua township was subordinate to Changzhou county. In 1912, Xihua was subordinate to Wu County. in 1928, the Rural Youth League bureaus were set up in Xihua and Changxiang townships, under which there were two affairs committees (MA she and sun she). in August 1929, the District, township and town system was implemented, and Guangfu and Xihua townships became the third (Guangfu) District of Wu County. In November 1937, Xihua was occupied. In March 1939, the governor's office of the puppet Wu County designated the township area, and Xihua established the township office. In March 1940, the puppet government of Wu County restored the system of Xihua town. In July 1941, the third (Guangfu) District of the puppet Wu County was changed to the sixth (Guangfu) District, with jurisdiction over 22 townships in four towns, including Guangfu and Xihua. On August 15, 1945, after the victory of the Anti Japanese War, the sixth (Guangfu) District of the puppet Wu County was rebuilt into the third (Guangfu) District of Wu County. In February 1947, Wu County merged the former second (Mudu) district and the third (Guangfu) District into Wuxi District, governing Xihua, Shifan and other towns. In February 1946, Xihua town was incorporated into a township, which was still under the jurisdiction of Wuxi district. On April 27, 1949, Xihua was liberated and Xihua town was built under the people's Government of Mudu District, Wu County. In March 1950, the districts and townships were adjusted. Xihua was under the jurisdiction of Guangfu district. The organizational system of Xihua town was abolished and three townships including Qinglong, Zhenhu and Shanhu were planned. In April 1956, Wuxian County abolished the district level system and merged Qinglong, Zhenhu and Shanhu townships in Xihua to form Zhenhu Township, with 17 administrative villages (communities). In October 1958, the Zhenhu people's commune of Wuxian county was established to implement the system of political and social integration, and 12 brigades including Shangshan, Dalian, Mashi, Xijing, Siqiao, Xinqiao, Xingwang, Chushan, Shifan, Mashan, Maqiao and Shian were planned. In 1962, Xicun was separated from Shian brigade and established Xicun brigade. in July 1983, the government and society were separated, Zhenhu township was restored, and the production brigade was changed into an administrative village. There were 13 administrative villages in the township. In November 1995, Zhenhu township was transformed into Zhenhu Town, implementing the system of town governing village.

In 1948, Wuxi district was reorganized into nine towns, including Guangfu, Xihua, Dongzhu, Shanqiao, Shihu, Fengqiao, Jinshan, Hengtang and Mudu, and two townships, Xiangshan and Xukou. in the early days of the people's Republic of China, the three townships of Qinglong, Zhenhu and Shanhu were divided in 1950. In 1958, Zhenhu people's commune was established with 12 production teams. At one time, it was changed into six battalions and 44 companies. By the end of 1959, 12 production brigades and 111 production brigades were established. In 1962, it was adjusted to 13 production teams and 129 production teams. from 1970 to 1982, there were 13 production teams and 144 production teams.
