Evolution of organizational system
In the first year of Wude in Tang Dynasty (618 AD), Dongsha and Xisha Islands began to appear on the surface of the Yangtze River Estuary. Later, many sandbanks changed from east to west, from south to north, and then to Chongming Island at the end of Ming Dynasty and the beginning of Qing Dynasty.
In the early years of the Republic of China (1912), since the founding of the Republic of China, the territory and establishment of Xianghua town have changed many times.
From the early years of the Republic of China (1912) to August of the eighth year of the Republic of China (1929), Chongming set up two cities, namely, Chengbao and 25 townships (10 townships in Waisha). Fengle township is the scope of Xianghua town and Zhongxing town. To the west of fengle township is yesha Township, which is now Wuzhen and Hexing District, and to the East is Dongjiu Township, which is now Chenjia town.
From August 1929 to June 1934, there were seven districts under the county. The former fengle and Dongjiu districts belonged to the Fifth District. At that time, fengle township was divided into nine townships, among which Xianghua Town, mixin Township, Fushan township (except the eastern region), Fukang Township and Fengyi township are now Xianghua Town, Liuzhen village and huacang village, namely xianxianghua Town, while Jibang Town, Qizhen Township, Dayou Township, Beixing Township and Fengyi Township are now Zhongxing Town, Fuxi village and Zhongxing village, and the eastern region of Fushan township is now Zhongxing town. Until the Anti Japanese war in 1938.
From July 1934 to April 1938, the county merged seven districts into five districts, and changed the original district 5 into District 4, but there was no change in the construction below the district.
On March 28, 1938, the Japanese invading army invaded Chongming, supported the puppet regime, and merged the above nine towns into Xianghua autonomous branch. But almost at the same time, Xianghua area established the underground Anti Japanese regime, which was still five townships, only changed the original Xianghua town into Zanhua town.
In 1941, Fengyi Township, Zanhua Township and mixin Township merged into Zanhua Township, while Fushan Township and Fukang Township merged into Fukang township. After the surrender of the Japanese invaders, that is, in September 1945, Xianghua was still divided into two townships, but Zanhua township was renamed Xianghua Township and Fukang township was renamed Fukang township.
In June 1947, Fukang and Xianghua merged.
From April 1950 to July 1952, Xianghua township was divided into Xianghua Township, Liuzhen Township and Fukang Township, belonging to Xianghua district (covering Xianghua, Hexing and Wuzhen districts).
From July 1952 to February 1956, the three townships were further divided into Xianghua Township, Liuzhen Township, mixin Township, Tibei Township and Fukang Township, belonging to Xianghua district.
From February 1956 to September 1957, the above five townships merged into Xianghua Township, mixin Township and Fukang Township, still belonging to Xianghua district.
From September 1957 to September 1958, Xianghua, mixin and Fukang were merged into Xianghua township.
On October 1, 1958, Xianghua people's commune was established. The rural system was abolished and the government and society were integrated. The senior commune was renamed the work area and later the production brigade. The economic accounting unit was the production brigade, and the production labor was changed from the production operation group to the large regiment. In December of the same year, Xianghua Township and Jibang Township merged into Xianghua Township, but they separated on May 25, 1959.
From May 1959 to March 1984, Xianghua commune established a management committee (reform committee).
In April 1984, Xianghua Township People's government was established.
In April 1994, Xianghua township was officially withdrawn to build a town.
