History and culture
The origin of place names
Chaoyang Gate Street is named after Chaoyang Gate of Beijing in Ming and Qing Dynasties.
Chaoyang Gate
Chaoyang Gate was renamed Chaoyang Gate in Ming Dynasty. The gate faces to the East, opposite to Fuchengmen, which faces to the West. At that time, a stone carved with ears of grain was inlaid on the north wall of Chengmen cave as a metaphor. The tower is about 35 meters high. The plane of the urn is square, 62 meters from east to west and 68 meters from north to south. In the 22nd year of the Yuan Dynasty (1258), Taimiao was built on the north side of qihuamen. In the first year of Hongwu in the Ming Dynasty, Xu Da marched into the capital of Yuandu on the afternoon of Geng (1368). His soldiers arrived at the gate of Qihua. His soldiers filled the trenches and climbed into the city. When the observatory was not built in the early years of Zhengtong in the Ming Dynasty, he made astronomical observations on the gate. In the first month of the third year of Zhengtong (1438), he allocated 100000 yuan troops to repair Chaoyang Gate and other city buildings. After the Qing army entered the pass, due to the reasons of defense and maintaining Manchuria customs, the Han people moved to the outer city and set up the white flag in Chaoyang Gate according to the tradition of the left and right wings of the Eight Banners March. Chaoyang Gate was demolished when the subway was built in 1970, and Chaoyang Gate overpass was built on the original foundation in 1978.
