Maogang town
Maogang town is located in the southwest of Songjiang District, Shanghai. It is located in the center of three towns in Punan area. It connects Yexie town with xiangjiejing in the East, Xinbang town with Rutang port in the west, Zhujing town in Jinshan District with xiaomaogang River in the south, and Shihudang town with Hengliaojing in the upper reaches of Huangpu River in the north.
In 2011, Maogang town covers an area of 57.28 square kilometers, with 2076 hectares of arable land and 1068 hectares of forest land. Along the South Bank of Huangpu River and Hengliaojing River, there is "ten thousand mu conservation forest" in Shanghai Huangpu River water source protection zone. In 2014, it was rated as a national ecological town, a safe community in Shanghai, and an advanced collective for comprehensive management of social security in Shanghai.
On July 24, 2019, Maogang town was selected into the list of national strong agricultural towns in 2019.
Historical evolution
In 1645, Jinshan barracks was under the jurisdiction of guantangxun, while Maogang barracks was under the jurisdiction of guantangxun.
Shunzhi 13 years (1656), divided into Huating county northwest part of the land to build Lou County, Wushe under Songjiang Fu Lou County Fengjing township.
In the autumn of the 28th year of Emperor Kangxi's reign (1689), there was a sudden noise on the ground near the skew bridge, which split more than two feet and became a ditch. Since then, there was an idol in the ditch on the water. Villagers built temples to offer sacrifices. This temple is commonly known as "Bailai Temple".
During the reign of Emperor Qianlong (1736), the villages were divided into Bao and qu. the villages in the five regions were divided into San Bao and Si Qu and 41 Bao and Si Qu respectively.
Qianlong 59 years (1794), Li people rebuilt the temple, also known as "rihuidun Temple". (after the formation of Maogang town in the late Qing Dynasty, it took the name of tailaimiao as the town and changed to Maogang town after liberation).
In the first year of Jiaqing (1796), it was recorded in the annals of Songjiang Prefecture. Wushe town "got its name from Wuyan's former residence."
In the early days of Xianfeng (about 1851), a Lika Bureau, commonly known as "clip", was set up in Maogang. At that time, there were Gu, Wu and Chen who set up grass shed stalls and later developed into towns.
In 1908, Huangqiao town was built.
In the third year of Xuantong (1911), Lou county was divided into 10 districts, and the five districts were divided into five districts.
The first year of the Republic of China (1912) local autonomy, Maogang is Jinshan County, named BEIXIANG.
In 1914, Huating county changed its name to Songjiang County, and Wushe township was built in Wushe area.
In August 1924, during the war between Qi and Lu (Qi Xieyuan, Jiangsu Province, Lu Yongxiang, Zhejiang Province), when Qi troops withdrew from the north, they set fire to four shops of Wu surname in the South and north of the middle street of Maogang market town. In Hengliaojing, the two armies had a stalemate for seven days. On October 3, sun Chuanfang, the governor of Fujian Province, entered Zhejiang Province from Fujian Province and fought with Zhejiang army in Shihudang and Xietang triangle crossing area. On December 22, Chen Leshan, division commander of Zhejiang army, went back to Songjiang and called together the old army and sun Chuanfang to hold a stalemate on both sides of Xietang triangle crossing.
In July 1927, the sixth branch of Jinshan County under Maogang police station set up an administrative bureau in BEIXIANG. In 1929, it was the third district.
In 1934, Maogang was transformed into the Second District Office of Jinshan County, and the Baojia system was established. In April, the "Baojia system" was implemented in the five regions.
On November 5, 1937 (the third day of the tenth lunar month), the Japanese army landed from Jinshanzui, killed and set fire all the way, and occupied Huangqiao and Wushe towns. On November 6 (the fourth day of October of the lunar calendar), Japanese troops burned down Hedong shop in Maogang market town. Four bungalows and four buildings with the surname Shen on both sides of Hexi middle street in Maogang town were also burned down by the Japanese army.
In July 1946, Maogang district was divided into five townships: Maogang, Huangqiao, Jingdong, Jingxi and Nanpu.
In June 1947, the five townships of Maogang were merged into three townships: Maogang, Liaobei and Huanggong.
In April 1948, the three townships were merged into Maogang township.
After 1949, it became a district. In July 1957, it was withdrawn to a township. In 1958, Maogang people's commune was established.
In 1966, it was transferred to Songjiang County. In 1984, it was changed into a township. In 1993, it was withdrawn from the township to build a town.
In 1957, the new five townships were composed of three small townships in Fengjing district. The new five communes were established in 1958. In 1984, the township government was set up in the new Wushe town. In 1994, new Wuxiang was abolished and Wushe town was established.
In January 2001, Wushe town and Maogang town were abolished and a new Maogang town was established, covering an area of 58.7 square kilometers. In 2004, it has jurisdiction over 2 neighborhood committees of Maogang and Wushe, and 13 administrative villages of Jiaojia, Xingong, Yaojing, Huguang, Huangqiao, Fanjia, Maogang, Xinjian, Xushe, Nanshan, Xingwang, Tianhuang and Shuguang; Wushe agricultural park manages 3 administrative villages of caojiabang, Zhuding and Rutang.

Maogang landform is the bottom of butterfly shaped depression in Taihu Lake Basin. The terrain is low and flat, and the ground level is inclined from southeast to northwest. It is slightly higher in the East and south, and low in the West and North, with an altitude of less than 2.4 meters. There is a large area of low-lying land (commonly known as WanMu Maotian, one of the three Maotian in ancient times).

Maogang town is a typical water network zone with crisscross canals and numerous ponds. All rivers are tidal channels, rising and falling twice in the day and night. The highest water level of Huangpu River (mishidu) is 3.8 meters above Wusong zero, 3.3 meters of warning water level and 3.5 meters of dangerous water level.

Maogang bridge, known as "mother of cable stayed bridge in China", is located in Maogang town. Maogang town is an important transportation hub in the southwest of Shanghai, with convenient water, land and air transportation. Tongsan expressway runs from north to south, Yexin highway from east to west, Jiajin Expressway in the East, Shanghai Hangzhou Expressway in the West and national highway 320 in the south. It is less than 50 km away from Shanghai Hongqiao Airport, Shanghai Pudong International Airport, Jinshan Petrochemical port wharf, Luchao port and Dayangshan Deepwater Port Wharf (under construction). The surrounding Huangpu River is surrounded by golden waterway, with a navigation capacity of 5000 tons.
