History and culture
Around the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty, six natural villages were formed, including wujiayan (now zhangjialou) and shenjiazhai. From Kangxi to Xianfeng in Qing Dynasty, there were more than 10 natural villages such as gongjiazhai, zhujiatan, Yangjiazhai and Wangjiazhai. In 1860, in order to prevent the attack of Taiping army, Liu YingGAO, the magistrate of Shanghai county, ordered the villages to be surrounded by soil on the north and South Bank of Huacao, including three on the south bank and one on the north bank. The mud wall circle in the territory is on the north bank, so it is often called the North mud wall circle. In Tongzhi period of Qing Dynasty, kangjiazhai natural village was formed. Since the 20th century, the population has gradually increased, and the natural villages have generally expanded. In the mid-1940s, Taibei village and qianjiagang gradually formed shanty towns with dense population. Commercial outlets are mostly concentrated in zhangjialou, tangjiabang and today's Pudong South Road. During the Anti Japanese War, Japanese troops invaded zhujiatan, qianjiagang, etc. and seized civilian houses. All Shen's houses were destroyed by gunfire, and some residents were displaced. The hujiamu bridge was demolished, the traffic between the north and south sides of Zhangjiabang was cut off, the shops were closed, and the market tended to be deserted. Before liberation, only some sections of a few roads, such as Xinma Road (now a section of Pudong South Road), Zhangyang road and zhangliu Road (now Yuanshen Road), were built in the territory. At present, the main roads in the territory are Zhangyang Road, Weifang road and Pudian road in the east-west direction, and Pudong South Road, Laoshan East Road, Wendeng Road (now Dongfang Road) and Yuanshen road in the north-south direction. There are six bus lines passing through the territory, including the starting point of the fourth line of the tunnel. On the eve of liberation, the KMT slaughtered 12 revolutionaries, including Li Bai, Qin Hongjun, Zhang Kuizai and Yang Zhuquan
