In 1931, Boli County was called Boli street.
In 1938, it was changed to bolicheng district.
In 1941, it was changed to Boli street.
In 1945, it was changed into Chengguan District.
In 1951, it was renamed District 1.
In December 1955, it was changed to Boli town.
In September 1958, the town changed into a commune.
